"GRAVITY" is a technical demonstration that fully leverages the potential of SKYSQUARE’s immersive, realistic sound library—a hallmark of the facility—featuring sounds of destruction from large-scale heavy machinery, high-energy physical collisions, and diverse ambient sounds.
Every audio element in the work is constructed exclusively from sound sources recorded at the studio, showcasing the possibilities of audio expression in next-generation game development.
To coincide with the release of this tech demo, we will present two sessions at "CEDEC 2026," Japan’s largest conference for sharing game technology and knowledge: "Large-Scale! Recording the Overwhelming Physical Energy of an Outdoor ‘Foley Field’ and Practical Applications," which covers the recording know-how and audio technology used in this work, and[UE5 × RIGDOCKS] Building a Dedicated In-House System! Next-Generation Audio Workflows Starting with ‘SKYSQUARE’."

Collapsing Objects
Giant steel beams and various metal materials rain down ceaselessly from above, and amidst this harsh environment, the official character “Loopdirock” makes his way forward.
The video and audio production captures the objects crashing into the surroundings one after another, the resulting collapse, and the intense physical phenomena they trigger.
In this work, we thoroughly pursued subtle nuances such as the overwhelming “sense of scale” of the objects—which can only be captured through live recording—the “variation in sound” that differs with each collision, and the raw “roughness” of metal rubbing against metal.
To bring out the realistic texture inherent in the live recordings, we meticulously fine-tuned the audio down to every single note, creating a soundscape with an unprecedented sense of realism.
■ An Unprecedented Recording Method Using "1-Ton Steel Beams" and Heavy Machinery

Purchasing massive steel beams in-house
For the recording of this work, we purchased multiple massive steel beams with a combined weight of nearly one ton, establishing a recording setup that allowed for immediate on-site use.
We recorded using a dynamic method that defies conventional studio wisdom: a Yanmar B7Σ excavator deployed on-site hoisted the steel beams high into the air, causing them to free-fall.
The tremendous, rumbling bass that explodes in all directions the moment it crashes into the concrete ground, and the physical energy that shakes the air as the steel beams dent and warp.It was only possible to capture the authentic impact sounds of these “one-ton masses” colliding within the vast acoustic space of the outdoor-specialized studio “SKYSQUARE.”

This tech demo embodies a literal “life-or-death realism” made possible by the large-scale heavy machinery operations shown in the photos, meticulous safety measures, and exceptional recording techniques.

Recording of Actual Objects
■ Overwhelming realism from ultra-low-frequency vibrations. We successfully recorded the "ground rumbling" sound using large subwoofers and power amplifiers

Recording of "Earth-Rumbling" Sound
We conducted a unique recording of "earth-rumbling" sound using a combination of CLASSIC PRO CPW18II-4 woofer units and YAMAHA PC4002 power amplifiers.
Our in-house staff built the entire audio infrastructure, from wiring to the subwoofers to connecting the terminals.
We generated the "earth-rumbling" sound by allowing the physical vibrations of the ultra-low frequencies—produced by the power amplifier and capable of shaking the body—to resonate directly within a prefabricated house. By causing nearby objects to vibrate and adjusting the resonance, we captured these vibrations with microphones.
In creating a powerful audio experience, reproducing the "ground rumble" that shakes the air is an extremely difficult task.
Initially, we conducted recording and playback experiments using 15-inch subwoofer units. However, the 15-inch size simply lacked the scale required to express the “overwhelming deep bass” we sought, and we could not achieve the ideal sound.
Therefore, in pursuit of a greater sense of scale, we increased the speaker size to 18 inches. This bold change paid off, and we succeeded in reproducing the “realistic rumbling that makes the air itself vibrate”—exactly what we were seeking.
Furthermore, to fully drive this massive woofer, careful consideration of the power amplifier’s wattage (W) capacity was essential.To prevent sound thinning or distortion caused by insufficient power, we conducted careful evaluations and ultimately selected the YAMAHA PC4002, which boasts overwhelming output and stability. We have completed a perfect system that maximizes the potential of these large-diameter speakers.
The atmospheric quality and overwhelming energy of this meticulously crafted “ground rumble” are incorporated throughout this “GRAVITY” project.

Recording and Playback Experiments for Earth-Rumbling Sounds
■ Relentless recording of adverse weather (rain and thunder) ambient sounds by “lying in wait” for the right conditions

Persevering to Wait for Authentic Natural Phenomena
For the ambient sounds (rain and thunder) that realistically fill the acoustic space of "GRAVITY," the textures brought by genuine natural phenomena—rather than artificial noise—were essential.
To create a tense atmosphere, we tried a new approach to ambient sound recording on location: “ambushing the weather to record it.”
Natural phenomena such as rain and thunder cannot be controlled at will.Therefore, the staff waited on-site, ready to pounce the moment “ideal bad weather” enveloped the studio. They patiently waited until the moment arrived to capture the sound of heavy rain pounding the ground and metal surfaces, as well as the realistic roar of thunder tearing through the atmosphere, successfully capturing these sounds with the utmost freshness.
Through this thorough on-site approach of “humans adapting to nature’s timeline,” we were able to encapsulate within the tech demo the raw, undulating atmosphere and dynamic weather changes unique to that specific day and location—a far cry from the uniform ambient sounds found in typical sound libraries.
