Green Science Alliance develops adhesives derived from plants and natural biomass.
Green Scienceアライアンス株式会社
Green Science Alliance Inc., a company that researches and develops cutting-edge technologies in the environmental and energy fields for building a decarbonized, carbon-neutral society, has developed an adhesive derived from plants and natural biomass.
The product will be available at the "BIO-SAKURA SHOP" from April 7 under the registered trademark of Bio Sakura.
Plant- and natural biomass-derived adhesives (two-component epoxy resin-based adhesives)
Environmental problems such as climate change caused by population growth, deforestation, and plastic pollution caused by micro and nano plastics are serious. Products made from natural biomass resources such as plants instead of fossil fuels such as petroleum tend to be carbon neutral. This is because plants absorb CO2 from their surroundings, so their overall carbon content tends not to increase even after biodegradation.
With the audacious goal of replacing all petroleum- and fossil fuel-derived chemical products with those derived from plants and natural biomass, GS Alliance has been developing biodegradable plastics, biodegradable resins, natural coating materials, biomass paints, plasticizers and lubricants derived from natural biomass, 3D printer molded products (including furniture such as desks), and nail cosmetics.
Now, we have created an adhesive made from plant-derived ingredients, a two-component epoxy resin-based adhesive with a plant biomass content of 30-50%, and we plan to further increase the plant biomass content in the future. Although derived from plants and biomass, it can be used not only for wood and wood-based materials but also for ceramics, glass, metals, plastics, and films, just like commercially available petroleum-derived epoxy resin-based adhesives, and shows almost the same adhesive strength.
However, there are some points to note: while commercially available petroleum-derived epoxy resins are used after mixing the main agent and hardener at a ratio of 1:1, this product is used after mixing the main agent and hardener at a ratio of 2:1.
