Cryptofarm LLC (Location: Toyooka City, Hyogo Prefecture; Representative Employee: Rena Oda) will begin a demonstration experiment of a system that uses blockchain technology to record detailed information on pesticides used and cultivation environment for each farmland and facility to improve traceability during shipment. The experiment will be conducted on strawberries and sansho (Japanese pepper) cultivated by the company, with trial operations scheduled to begin in February 2025.
In recent years, traceability to ensure transparency and reliability of the production process of agricultural products has become increasingly important as consumers have become increasingly safety- and security-conscious. In response to this need, Crypto Farm LLC has launched a new initiative utilizing blockchain technology, aiming not only to improve agricultural efficiency but also to create products that consumers can choose with confidence.

Main features of this system
(Accurate record of pesticide and fertilizer usage history)
Information on pesticides and fertilizers used on each farmland and at each facility is recorded, and hashed certification data is recorded on the blockchain. This makes data tampering difficult and increases reliability.
Visualization of cultivation environment data
Information on temperature, humidity, soil environment, etc. is acquired by sensors, hashed and certified data is stored on the blockchain. This allows for an accurate understanding of the cultivation environment, which in turn improves the quality of the product.
Improved traceability during shipment
Using two-dimensional codes, consumers can easily check production information using their smartphones. This "visualizes" the flow of information from the production site to the dining table.
Outline of the demonstration experiment
Blockchain protocols: Base, Scroll
Target crops: Strawberries and Prickly Ash
Start date: February 2025
Objective: To verify the practicality and efficiency of the system
Based on the data obtained from the experiment, we plan to apply the system to other crops and regions, as well as develop emissions trading products using the blockchain.
Representative Comment
We believe that the digitalization of agriculture will become increasingly important in the future. By utilizing the blockchain, we would like to build a system that increases transparency at the production site and earns the trust of consumers. We hope that this demonstration experiment will be the first step in bringing new possibilities to Japanese agriculture."
