WEF Technology Development Co. (Location: Otsu City, Shiga Prefecture; Representative Director: Akira Aoyama), which produces active oxygen from oxygen in the air and manufactures and sells various devices incorporating it, has developed a treatment system that accelerates the speed of its own active oxygen treatment by nearly 10 times.
Details will be presented at the presentation corner at the InterAqua 2025 exhibition to be held at Tokyo Big Sight on Thursday, January 30, 2025.
■About Activated Oxygen Water Treatment Technology
Our patented technology instantly generates reactive oxygen species from oxygen in the air. A similar device is the plasma generator, but the major difference is that it is low-cost and can generate a large amount of reactive oxygen species.
For the treatment of organic matter in water, the amount of hydroxyl radicals generated by superoxide anions alone is small, and the efficiency of organic matter decomposition is low.
Using this treatment system, organic matter in water can be decomposed three times faster than with ozone.
■Treatment Capacity Enhancement of Activated Oxygen Water Treatment
High concentration, difficult decomposition, large volume. These are the challenges of recent wastewater treatment. Even if activated oxygen treatment can treat wastewater three times faster than ozone, it is not enough to make people happy with the recent wastewater treatment, so we have been working to develop an activated oxygen treatment system that shows overwhelming effectiveness.
Until now, activated oxygen treatment has been three times faster than ozone in decomposing organic matter in water, but we have recently developed a new treatment system that uses activated oxygen. We have confirmed that the treatment speed is nearly 10 times faster than normal activated oxygen treatment, or 30 times faster than ozone.
Rhodamine (dye) treatment time with normal active oxygen: 2 hours
Activated oxygen + catalyst treatment 1st treatment: 12 min.
As you can see from the above treatment results, 120 minutes for normal treatment / 12 minutes for catalyst treatment, which is 10 times faster than the normal activated oxygen treatment. This is 30 times faster than ozone treatment.
This is 30 times faster than ozone treatment.
With this treatment capacity, it may be possible not only to easily decompose persistent organic matter, which has become a problem, but also to bring highly concentrated and persistent wastewater up to discharge standards. In addition, if this treatment system is used in a raw water tank, most of the organic matter is gasified and decomposed, which does not necessarily mean that the activated sludge method is unnecessary, but it does mean that only a small amount of microorganisms are required for treatment, which in turn greatly reduces the generation of excess sludge.
The standard activated sludge method, which is commonly used in wastewater treatment today, requires a large amount of air aeration to maintain a large amount of microorganisms, resulting in two major problems: electricity consumption and generation of excess sludge, which is the carcasses of dead microorganisms.
Details will be presented at the InterAqua 2025 exhibition.
The details of this treatment system, for which patent application documents are currently being prepared, will be presented at the presentation corner in the InterAqua 2025 exhibition to be held at Tokyo Big Sight from January 29 (Wed.) to January 31 (Fri.), 2025.
