The British Standards Institution (BSI) has announced a new package of measures, including certification of a new management system designed to enable the safe, secure, and responsible use of AI throughout society, following a "Confidence in AI Survey" conducted by the BSI that showed 61% of respondents want international guidelines for AI technology. The new package of measures includes certification of a new management system designed to make AI safe, secure, and responsible for use throughout society.
BSI (British Standards Institution) Launches Package of Measures for AI Management
The package complies with the recently published international management system standard for AI (BS ISO/IEC 42001). And it is intended to help companies and organizations use AI responsibly, addressing considerations such as opaque automated decision making, the use of machine learning rather than human-coded logic when designing systems, and continuous learning.
■ BSI CEO Susan Taylor Martin comments.
"AI is a transformative technology, but trust is essential for AI to become a contributing force in the world. BSI is proud to be at the forefront of ensuring that AI is safely and reliably integrated into society as a whole. The package builds on BSI's portfolio of AI services designed to cultivate trust in AI. It includes AI training courses that provide individuals and organizations with the knowledge and skills they need to comply with complex AI-related standards and regulations. In this rapidly evolving field, understanding the ethical, legal, and compliance aspects of AI is critical to achieving responsible and sustainable development.
Algorithm testing is the most critical component as it directly affects the reliability, accuracy, and performance of AI systems. AI algorithms such as machine learning models, deep neural networks, and natural language processing underpin the decision-making process of AI applications, and BSI's rigorous testing validates the accuracy and efficiency of these algorithms to ensure that its AI delivers reliable results and real-world BSI's rigorous testing is essential to verify the accuracy and efficiency of these algorithms and to ensure that its AI delivers reliable results and optimal performance against real-world scenarios.
BSI also offers the AI Excellence Benchmark Assessment for organizations that need a way to ensure that their AI technology is being used responsibly and ethically. The assessment is designed to help organizations promote responsible AI practices and help them succeed in an AI-enabled future society.
BSI has the goal of becoming a Notified Body for AI products that require oversight by a Notified Body, following the development of EU AI legislation, and actively seeking AI Excellence Benchmark Assessments for AI-enabled products and AI management systems. Serving manufacturers and software providers.
Manuela Gazzard, Group Director of Regulatory Services at BSI, comments
As we seek to expand the reach of AI across sectors, including healthcare, transportation, and the built environment, it is important to complement innovation and progress with safe and ethical implementation. We are pleased that BSI is helping organizations maximize innovation and make it a force for social good."
BSI's Trust in AI Survey* of 10,000 adults in nine countries found that three-fifths of the world's population wants international guidelines to enable the safe use of AI. Nearly two-fifths (38%) of the world already use AI in their work every day, and more than two-thirds (62%) expect AI to be used in their industries by 2030. The survey reveals that closing the "AI confidence gap" and building trust in the technology is key to advancing the benefits of AI for society and the planet.
