Next Energy to Launch N-type Cells for Industrial Applications Solar modules with N-type cells for industrial use to go on sale on January 19 (Friday)

N-type TOPCon 4.0 process adopted for high output power

ネクストエナジー・アンド・リソース株式会社

Next Energy and Resources Corporation (headquartered in Komagane City, Nagano Prefecture; Atsushi Ito, President & CEO; hereinafter "the Company"), a company that develops renewable energy-related businesses, will begin selling four high-power solar cell modules for industrial use that employ the N-type TOPCon (tunnel oxide film passivation contact) 4.0 process. The company will start sales of four models of high-power solar cell modules for industrial use that employ the N-type TOPCon (tunnel oxide film passivation contact) 4.0 process on January 19, 2024.

N-type solar cell module

In today's world, where the implementation of the SDGs has become an important corporate social responsibility, the reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions is one of the most important initiatives. One example of a useful way to do this is the installation of photovoltaic power generation equipment, which is increasingly being used for completely self-consumption through self-investment and PPA models. In this context, improving the output of solar cell modules is indispensable for obtaining the necessary power in a limited footprint.

We have been increasing output by shifting from polycrystalline to monocrystalline and from full-size to half-cut cells, with a focus on P-type cells. We now offer high-power solar cell modules that employ N-type cells, which contribute to higher output, and TOPCon 4.0, a manufacturing process that maximizes the performance of N-type cells. N-type solar cell modules have higher output per unit area than P-type solar cell modules, less degradation over time, and higher power generation in low light conditions, resulting in higher lifetime power generation*1.

With this N-type solar cell module, we will continue to reduce the LCOE (Levelized Cost of Equalized Electricity) of photovoltaic power generation systems, thereby contributing to the SDGs.

Features of the N-type solar cell module

(1) Installation of N-type TOPCon cells

The latest process technology TOPCon4.0 is used for N-type cells. It features higher conversion efficiency than conventional P-type cells and lower LID (Light Induced Degradation) and annual aging degradation rates, resulting in improved lifetime power generation of the solar cell module*1.

(2) Excellent temperature and low-light characteristics and high reliability

Compared to P-type cells, the temperature coefficient is lower and the low-light characteristics are superior, resulting in higher power generation in summer and on cloudy days. In addition, the number of bus bars has been increased from 11 to 16, and the bus bar spacing has been narrowed to reduce electrical resistance and improve power generation efficiency. Furthermore, resistance to cell cracks and uniform stress distribution in the cells have been achieved, resulting in improved reliability.

*1. Compared to our solar cell module.

The backside of the module is made of glass instead of backsheets, so it is heavier than the P-type solar cell module.

3. It depends on the installation conditions. Please refer to the instruction manual for details.

4. The output of N-type cells is improving quickly due to the development of manufacturing technology, and the output will be changed in the future. Please consider this in accordance with the timing of your installation.

*5. Black frames for residential use are also included.
