[A Rare Spawning Experience Unique to a Trout Farm]

At the Samegai Trout Farm, where visitors can enjoy natural scenery such as autumn foliage, the trout spawning season is now at its peak. For this special event, participants will have the opportunity to harvest eggs from rainbow trout themselves under the guidance of expert staff.

For lunch, you’ll enjoy an “original salmon roe rice bowl” topped with the roe you harvested yourself, along with a “soup with chunks of large amago trout.”

Before and after the experience and lunch, you can enjoy a stroll or some fishing within the trout farm, surrounded by nature.

Last year’s participants shared feedback such as, “It was a precious experience to share with my children,” and “I came with friends—the salmon roe rice bowl was delicious.” In our survey, nearly 90% of respondents said they “would like to come again,” indicating the event was very well-received.

We invite you to join us for this unique experience available only at a trout farm.

[Shiga Prefecture Samegai Trout Farm]

The Samegai Trout Farm, which will soon celebrate its 150th anniversary, is a Shiga Prefectural facility dedicated to the production and supply of trout, as well as tourism, education, and research. Established in Meiji 11 (1878), it is one of Japan’s oldest trout breeding and farming facilities.

Using clear spring water that flows from a limestone cave at the foot of Mt. Reisen (1,094 m), the farm raises char, amago, rainbow trout, and biwa trout, and is often referred to as the “Home of Japan’s Stream Fish.”
