Once bustling with people, the Uchidabashi Shopping District has recently seen new stores open and young entrepreneurs take on new challenges, leading to community-building efforts where local residents and shop owners work together as one.

This year’s Uchidabashi Festival will serve as an opportunity to showcase these new developments in the shopping district to both the local community and visitors from beyond the area.

■ Connecting People Through the Festival

The theme of the 6th Uchida Bridge Festival is “Connect, Gather, Enjoy. Uchida Bridge Belongs to Everyone!”

On the day of the festival, we have a variety of events planned, including stage performances such as music and dance, food and drink booths run by local shops, and food trucks.Highlights on the main stage include a performance by Saxophone Oiran, produced by Taro Kusunoki (President of Atsuta Horai-ken), and the debut performance of the debut single “Shopping District Drenched in Tears” by local enka duet singers Ichiro Chikumagawa and Miyuki Ontakesan. We will also perform the “Uchida Bridge Samba,” a song created with the hope that past chairpersons of the Uchida Bridge Association would dance to it. Please be sure to gather at the stage at 5:00 PM.

Whether you’re a longtime resident of this town, someone who’s just opened a new shop, or a first-time visitor to Uchidabashi, we aim to create a festival that fosters connections across generations and neighborhoods—one that everyone can enjoy.

■ Our Goal: “Japan’s Number One Shopping District Connecting History and the Future”

What the Uchidabashi Shopping District values most is not just a one-day celebration, but using the festival as a catalyst to foster new connections and initiatives that will shape the town’s future.

While cherishing the history and culture of the surrounding areas—such as Miyajuku, which flourished as a post town on the Tōkaidō, and Horikawa, which has supported Nagoya’s development—we are also strengthening our collaboration with the Atsuta region.

Inspired by our selection for the “Our Town Shopping District 2026: Shining in the Community” initiative, we will work together with local residents to build a sustainable and vibrant shopping district.

■ Organizer’s Comment

“We are extremely pleased to have been selected for the Small and Medium Enterprise Agency’s ‘Shining in the Community: Our Town Shopping District Awards 2026.’

Revitalizing a shopping district is not simply about holding festivals to draw crowds. We believe it is important to use festivals as an opportunity for people to connect, for new shops and ventures to emerge, and for the town’s charm to be passed on to the next generation.

We want to build the future of Uchida Bridge together—with the people who have long supported it and those who are newly gathering in this town.

We aim to make Uchidabashi a bridge that connects people with one another, as well as history with the future.”
