"Bar FPO," a securities bar in Kitahama, Osaka, Celebrates Its 20th Anniversary

"Bar FPO" (located in Kitahama, Chuo Ward, Osaka City), a securities bar operated by FPO Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Nishi Ward, Osaka City; Representative Director: Michio Yamamoto), celebrated its 20th anniversary on October 20, 2026.

Carrying on the legacy of the securities bar that began in Kitahama, Osaka, in 2006, the venue continues to operate as a place where people interested in various financial markets—such as stock investing and FX—gather to discuss market trends.

These past 20 years have seen significant fluctuations in financial markets, including the 2008 Lehman Shock and the 2020 COVID-19 crisis. Even as the ways of obtaining investment information have changed dramatically, the bar has continued to serve as a place where investors can interact directly with one another.

■ The Securities Bar Passed Down in Kitahama, “Naniwa’s Wall Street”

Kitahama, Osaka—often referred to as “Naniwa’s Wall Street”—has long been a hub for securities firms and financial institutions centered around the Osaka Securities Exchange. In 2006, a securities bar was established here with the concept of providing “a place where investors can casually gather and discuss the markets.”

Although the bar has undergone changes in its name and management structure, it has continued to operate as a securities bar at the same location, evolving into the current “Bar FPO.”

Eight monitors are installed inside the bar, displaying real-time updates on global stock and foreign exchange markets, as well as financial news. iPads at the counter allow guests to check stock prices, exchange rate fluctuations, and charts.

A key feature of the bar is that people with different investment goals—such as stocks, FX, futures, and cryptocurrencies—and varying levels of experience can gather with a drink in hand to discuss the markets.

The “Retail Investor Networking Events” held regularly attract participants of all ages and investment experience levels, and spots often fill up shortly after registration opens. During periods of significant market volatility, the bar has even been featured in media coverage seeking the perspectives of retail investors.

■ 20 Years of Navigating Turbulent Financial Markets

Over the past 20 years since 2006, the environment surrounding investors has changed dramatically.

From the Lehman Shock, historic yen appreciation, Abenomics, the COVID-19 shock, and the subsequent sharp depreciation of the yen, financial markets have experienced major fluctuations time and again.

Investment methods and the way information is gathered have also changed. Today, people can buy and sell financial products using smartphones and gather investment information through social media, videos, and AI.

Meanwhile, Bar FPO has preserved a tradition of direct interaction, where investors meet face-to-face to discuss market trends.
