It is here in Hakone—a place where many travelers come and go—that on Wednesday, October 14, 2026,“Hakone Satori Main Store,” which serves thick matcha sweets, will finally hold its grand opening. Our store is part of the same brand as the “Atami Satori Main Store,” which opened in the Atami Ginza Shopping District in 2023, and is a specialty shop dedicated to thick matcha, operating under the concept of “Making ‘Omotenashi’ an Even More Special Moment.”Our menu features dishes that generously incorporate “Satori,” an original matcha blend carefully selected and specially formulated exclusively for our store.

Located on the shores of Lake Ashi—a mountainous region surrounded by towering natural peaks such as Mount Hakone and Mount Mikuni, and currently one of Japan’s leading hot spring destinations—the area is prone to early-morning fog and mist due to temperature differences and other environmental conditions.Our original matcha blend, “Satori,” is cultivated by a tea farmer with 50 years of experience in mist-shrouded mountain tea fields at an elevation of 500 meters, where two carefully selected varieties—[Asa] and [Kaze]—are grown amidst pure water and abundant nature.The highest-grade matcha in our “Satori” line, “Kaze”—prepared specifically to deliver the finest “omotenashi” (hospitality) in Hakone—is characterized by its high quality and thin leaf texture, resulting in a mellow, smooth-tasting matcha achieved through meticulous soil preparation and a time-intensive steaming process.For cultivation, we employ a “double-covering method” that goes beyond the standard single layer by constructing additional trellises to shield the tea leaves from sunlight for about 20 days. This approach, which cares for both the tea leaves and the tea plants, results in thin, vivid, deep-green leaves due to restricted photosynthesis.Furthermore, in addition to having artisans who fine-tune the shading level according to the weather, both the [Asa] and [Kaze] varieties are dried in a dedicated kiln built with stacked bricks. The far-infrared effects of this process create a mellow flavor with exceptional umami.
