The exhibition will feature *Bio-Vide / Becoming Object》, in which he positions his own body as part of a piece of furniture; *Invisible Connections / Display 1996*, which establishes a digital connection with invisible life; and *PromPlant(R) HeartBeat*, which generates plant forms from the heartbeats of cancer patients and encapsulates them within silkscreen tools. These new works will be displayed alongside a selection of his past works.
Drawing on his experience designing the bodies of SLR cameras, compact digital cameras, and lenses at Canon Inc., Yamazaki has explored his artistic expression through a process he calls “material attunement,” which fuses high-precision, meticulous adjustment techniques—typical of industrial design—with his own ideas and philosophy.By traversing diverse subjects—the distance between life and objects, the body, microorganisms, heartbeats, industrial products, and digital technology—he reexamines where humans perceive vitality and where they perceive and recognize things as mere objects.
■ An attempt to view the world from the perspective of objects by “becoming an object” myself
【Bio-Vide / Becoming Object】
“Bio-Vide” is a research and production project that Yamazaki has been pursuing since 2014. Rather than relying on the biological distinction between life and death, he has explored the boundary between life and objects from the perspective of “animacy.”
In *Bio-Vide / Becoming Object*, presented at SaloneSatellite in Milan in April 2026, Yamazaki chose to become an object himself—rather than merely thinking about objects—in order to gain the “perspective of the object itself,” which had been missing from his long-standing inquiry.
Sitting on a chair made from panels he developed by reconfiguring fallen leaves and wearing a mask composed of fallen leaves, Yamazaki positioned himself within the space as a static “object” for a total of approximately 43 hours during the Milan Salone.By inverting the conventional relationship in which humans use furniture, the work transforms the very boundaries between the body and furniture, and between life and matter, into art.
The work garnered attention from major global media outlets, and Yamazaki was selected as one of the 10 groups featured in “Ten young designers and studios to watch from Salone Satellite 2026” by the UK-based design media outlet Dezeen.

■ Connecting the invisible chain of life from childhood memories to the present
[Invisible Connections / Display 1996]
《Invisible Connections》 is a series that has been ongoing since 2023.
My life is sustained by connections to many forms of life, including microorganisms I will never encounter directly. Yamazaki has focused her attention on these relationships with life—which are difficult to perceive with the naked eye—and has used digital technology to generate and design unique representations of microorganisms.
The new work, 《Display 1996》, is one such output. Inspired by the memory of first owning a “digital lifeform” in childhood, Yamazaki has created a small display that pays homage to the exterior design of the first-generation “Tamagotchi,” which debuted in 1996.Stored inside are the original digital microorganisms (IC-001, IC-002, IC-003) generated and designed by Yamazaki for this exhibition.
This work holds a significant place in recounting Yamazaki’s memories, as his childhood experiences have, over time, connected with and been reconfigured through the concepts and philosophy of industrial design development.

■Generating plant forms from heartbeats
[PromPlant(R) HeartBeat]
《PromPlant(R) HeartBeat》 is a series that creates plant forms using the sound of a human heartbeat as the starting point for generation. Yamazaki has been generating images of plants from the sound of her own heartbeat and presenting those images as artworks.
The new work on display, 《PromPlant(R) HeartBeat_Fumi Hashimoto_2026》, was created using the heartbeat provided by an individual living with cancer. By juxtaposing this plant image—born from the artist’s own heartbeat—with the one derived from another person’s, the work prompts viewers to reflect on the differences arising from distinct bodies.
The work is displayed by repurposing tools used in silkscreen printing as picture frames. The fleeting sounds born from the body and the tools—which symbolize industrial reproduction techniques—overlap within a single artwork.
Yamazaki views objects not as passive entities unilaterally used by humans, but as entities that continually transform their meaning and existence through their connection to life and the accumulation of time.
Humans, plants, microorganisms, industrial products, and digital data. “Industrial Artistry”—which transforms the relationships between seemingly disparate entities into artworks by traversing the realms of the body, materials, industrial techniques, and digital technology—is also an attempt to shift the boundary between life and objects back to the viewer’s own perception and memory.
