The Tokyo Metropolitan Government will host “TOKYO KOUGEI PARK in AUTUMN,” an event designed to showcase the appeal of traditional crafts, at KITTE Marunouchi from Friday, October 23, Reiwa 8, through Tuesday, October 27.


This event brings together a diverse array of traditional crafts under one roof, allowing visitors of all ages—from children to adults—to enjoy hands-on workshops, live demonstrations by artisans, and shopping all in one place.

In addition, to support recovery efforts following the Noto Peninsula Earthquake, the event will feature a “Disaster-Affected Areas Support Fair,” showcasing and selling traditional crafts from the affected regions.In addition, we will hold exhibitions and award ceremonies for the “I Wish This Existed! You can purchase traditional crafts—such as Edo Kimekomi dolls, Edo glass, Edo embroidery, Tokyo cloisonné, and Tokyo shamisen—all crafted with care by skilled artisans.


○ Hands-On Workshops (1st Floor Atrium, 4th Floor JP Tower Hall & Conference Hall 1)

There are 17 different types of hands-on workshops where you can try your hand at crafting under the guidance of master artisans! The workshops change daily and include some making their debut at this event. This is a rare opportunity to learn directly from the artisans. We will be selling traditional crafts from the affected areas, including Wajima lacquerware, Kutani ware, Takaoka copperware, Takaoka lacquerware, Murakami woodcarving with tsuishu finish, and Kamo folding screens.This event offers an opportunity to support the recovery of the disaster-affected areas through traditional crafts.


○ Exhibition and Awards Ceremony for the “I Wish I Had This! Traditional Crafts” Design Contest (Tokyo City Eye Performance Zone, B1; 1st Floor Atrium)

Under the theme “If such traditional crafts existed, I’d like to use them myself,” this contest—which began accepting entries in June—received 1,175 submissions.All submitted entries will be on display at the venue. In addition, following a rigorous judging process by traditional craftspeople evaluating design, innovation, and practicality, we will hold an awards ceremony to honor the recipients of the Tokyo Governor’s Award, the Excellence Award, and the Honorable Mention. The work selected for the Tokyo Governor’s Award will be crafted by a traditional craftsperson at a later date and presented to the winner.
