The “Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route”—one of the world’s premier mountain tourism routes connecting Toyama and Nagano Prefectures (operated by Tateyama Kurobe Kanko Co., Ltd.,Headquarters: Toyama City, Toyama Prefecture), the autumn foliage visible from the “Tateyama Ropeway” (Daikanbo to Kurobe-daira area) typically reaches its peak from early to mid-October each year.Furthermore, this year, as a special event marking the 55th anniversary of the full opening of the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route, “KUROBEDAIRA 1971 SOUND MEMORY”—an event where visitors can enjoy autumn foliage and music—will be held for two days starting Saturday, October 3, 2026.

The fall foliage along the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route peaks a bit earlier than usual; as September begins, the leaves at Murodo-daira (2,450 m above sea level) start to change color, and the peak viewing period gradually moves down to lower-altitude areas through November.The Daikanbo–Kurobe-daira area, where the fall foliage typically reaches its peak from early to mid-October, is particularly popular because visitors can experience the 360-degree panoramic view of the autumn colors while riding the Tateyama Ropeway.

This music event is held at the Kurobedaira Garden, renowned for its beautiful fall foliage, as a special project commemorating the 55th anniversary of the full opening of the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route. Enjoy nostalgic classics released in 1971—the year the route opened—such as “Until We Meet Again,” as well as other famous mountain-themed songs, performed by a local wind ensemble.Furthermore, after the concert, there will be a jam session with the general public, allowing participants to fully enjoy the fall foliage and music together.

Located in the Tateyama region of the Chubu Mountain National Park, this is one of the world’s premier mountain tourism routes. By transferring between a variety of modes of transportation unique to mountainous areas—such as cable cars, buses, and ropeways—you can easily enjoy the breathtaking views of the Tateyama mountain range, which reaches altitudes of around 3,000 meters.Accessible from both the Toyama and Nagano sides, the one-way route allows you to fully enjoy major attractions such as Murodo Plain and the Kurobe Dam.
