The “Arashiyama Autumn Fireworks 2026 Special Viewing Area” will be held on Sunday, October 11, and Monday, October 12 (a national holiday), 2026. This is an exclusive viewing area limited to the first 200 guests, where you can enjoy the fireworks from the observation deck at Horin-ji Temple.

[Background]

The Arashiyama Fireworks were held in 2020 for the first time in 44 years. At that time, the world was in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the event began with a quiet fireworks display held with the hope that “people would be able to lift their spirits, even just a little,” and “the pandemic would be driven out of the world.”

We have prepared a special viewing area featuring a private observation deck—where you can not only enjoy the fireworks but also take in the panoramic night view of Arashiyama—as well as live music, a beer garden, and performances of the local traditional art form, Saga Kyogen.

・Hōrin-ji Temple

Hōrin-ji Temple, located halfway up the slopes of Arashiyama, has a long history. It was founded approximately 1,300 years ago, in the 6th year of the Wadō era (713), by the Buddhist monk Gyōki at the imperial command of Empress Genmei.In Sei Shōnagon’s *The Pillow Book*, it is cited as one of Kyoto’s most representative temples, and the blessings bestowed by its principal image are also described in *The Tales of Times Past*. Although most of the temple buildings were destroyed in the Kinmon Incident during the Bakumatsu period, the main hall, mountain gate, and Tahō-tō pagoda have been reconstructed and remain to this day.

Togetsukyo Bridge, which spans the Oi River in Arashiyama, is said to have been built by Dōshō of Hōrin-ji when he carried out river improvements; until the Edo period, it was known as Hōrin-ji Bridge. Looking out over Arashiyama from Togetsukyo Bridge, you can see the Tahō-tō pagoda of Hōrin-ji halfway up the mountainside.From here, you can take in a panoramic view of Togetsukyo Bridge and the Sagano area, as well as the Higashiyama mountains and the city of Kyoto.
