Starting on November 6, “AGI Day,” We are now accepting applications for co-creation projects focused on the AGI era
Working backward from the future of AGI—which does not yet exist— we collaborate with companies, organizations, and researchers to envision the “next phase of societal implementation.”
Artificial Intelligence Development Fund Secretariat, Japan X-TECH Federation
The Secretariat of the Artificial Intelligence Development Fund and the Japan X-TECH Federation will begin accepting applications for new business and social implementation projects aimed at realizing AGI (Artificial General Intelligence) starting on November 6, 2026, with “AGI Day” on November 6 serving as the starting point.
This project will accept new business proposals that lead to future societal implementation, using the technologies and ideas held by companies, organizations, and others as a starting point. Selected projects will be provided with a mechanism allowing them to utilize the commemorative day’s name, trademarks, and other assets in their business operations through a non-exclusive license with no initial costs.

AGI Day
AGI is not a technology that is widely recognized as having been realized at this point in time.
While generative AI and AI agents are advancing rapidly, we have not yet reached the stage where we can say that “general-purpose artificial intelligence”—which understands knowledge across a wide range of fields and can flexibly address unknown challenges through learning and reasoning—has emerged in society.
That is precisely why, rather than waiting for AGI to be realized before considering how to use it, we are asking, “If we work backward from a future where AGI exists, what can we start doing right now?”
In this project, we invite companies, organizations, and other entities to use their existing technologies, products, services, expertise, research findings, customer bases, and local resources as a starting point to independently devise and propose new business models and methods for societal implementation.
■ “AGI Day” serves as a starting point for thinking about the future
AGI is not an AI that performs only specific tasks; rather, it is a concept of artificial intelligence that aims to understand knowledge across different fields, learn what is necessary, and use reasoning to tackle challenges unlike any we have experienced before.
If AGI is realized in the future, it has the potential to impact various sectors of society and industry.
For example,
・Research and development that spans multiple scientific fields to generate unknown hypotheses, new drugs, and new materials
・ Services that learn about and reason through unknown problems to derive new solutions
・Businesses that create new technologies, products, and industries by transcending human thinking and the boundaries of existing industries
• Addressing complex social challenges such as climate, energy, and food
・Safety assessments and risk audits to verify dangerous decisions or unexpected actions by AGI
・Control, authentication, and safety management systems to enable humans to monitor, restrict, and shut down AGI
are some examples.
However, the call for proposals this time is not for “businesses that use fully developed AGI.”
Using existing technologies and knowledge—such as AI, AI agents, robotics, data, safety, education, and governance—as a starting point, we will explore new business ventures and societal implementations that will pave the way for the future AGI era.
■ Using the companies’ own ideas as the starting point for new businesses
In this project, the Japan X-TECH Federation will not provide companies with a finished business model.
Instead, we will use
・Technologies
・products and services
・customer base
・Specialized personnel
・Data
・Regional Resources
・Sales Network
・Research Findings
Using these as starting points, we ask you to consider “What can we uniquely contribute in the age of AGI?” and propose new business models and societal applications.
For example, in the manufacturing sector, this could involve new manufacturing support that combines AI with production technology.
In the healthcare and nursing care sectors, this could involve new support services where humans and advanced AI collaborate.
In the education sector: learning and talent development with an eye toward the future AGI era.
For local companies: new regional initiatives that combine the region’s industries, tourism, agriculture, disaster prevention, and other sectors with next-generation AI.
Rather than selecting from a pre-determined list of business options, we will use the ideas generated by the participating companies and organizations themselves as the starting point for new ventures.
■ Why November 6?
The date for “AGI Day” is not based on a play on words, but on a verifiable record in the history of technology that can be electronically confirmed by a third party.
In 1997, at “The Fifth Foresight Conference on Molecular Nanotechnology” held in the United States, a poster presentation titled “Nanotechnology and International Security” by Mark Avrum Gubrud was recorded.
This document uses the term “artificial general intelligence.”
The official program for that conference records that the poster session was scheduled for November 6, 1997.
For this reason, this initiative designates November 6 as the reference date for “AGI Day,” as it is linked to an important early record in the history of AGI that can be verified electronically.
This does not mean that “AGI was born on November 6.”
AGI itself is still in the process of research and development toward its realization.
Precisely because it is a technology that does not yet exist, we preserve the record of its conceptual emergence in history and use it as a starting point for thinking about the future.
That is the concept behind “AGI Day.”

■ Transforming Commemorative Days from “Days of Celebration” to “Gateways for New Initiatives”
The Advanced Science and Technology Commemoration Day system does not view the establishment of a commemoration day as an end in itself.
It records the dates when technologies were born or when important concepts emerged in society.
From there, we learn about the history and background of the technology.
And we consider “what can be done next” based on that technology.
We utilize these commemorative days as a starting point for considering new business ventures and societal applications.
“AGI Day” is the first initiative of this kind.
■ Multiple Social Applications from a Single “AGI Day”
For selected projects, we will enter into license agreements allowing the use of the names and trademarks of “AGI Day” and other cutting-edge science and technology commemorative days in their business operations.
As a general rule, these licenses are non-exclusive.
Rather than limiting a single commemorative day to just one company, we envision multiple companies and organizations commercializing these initiatives from diverse industries, technologies, regions, and applications.
One project from the manufacturing sector.
Another project from the medical field.
Different projects will also emerge from fields such as education, research, safety, robotics, and regional industries.
A single cutting-edge technology gives rise to diverse social applications.
This is the purpose of the non-exclusive license.
■ Initial cost: 0 yen; after business operations begin, the “flat-rate royalty system” applies
The Artificial Intelligence Development Fund Secretariat and the Japan X-TECH Federation are rolling out a business licensing model that allows companies and organizations to propose new business ventures and social applications on their own, and upon selection, utilize the name and trademark of “Advanced Science and Technology Day.”
Even for projects starting on November 6, “AGI Day,” this approach will be applied to create a system that allows businesses to continuously leverage the brand value of the commemorative day while keeping initial costs low.
There are no fees for applications or consultations.
For the business use license to be concluded after selection, there are no initial costs or initial license fees.
For selected projects, we will conclude individual license agreements with the selected parties after taking into account the business details and terms of use, and then commence commercial use.
After commercial use begins, we will apply a “fixed-rate royalty system” stipulated in advance in the contract, rather than a system based on a percentage of sales.
The royalty amount is not uniform; it is determined in individual contracts based on the brand value of each commemorative date, business value, details of use, scope of application, and other factors.
For businesses that generate revenue, such as sales, flat-rate royalties generally become payable starting the month following the generation of revenue.
Since there is no need to perform complex calculations each time in response to fluctuations in sales volume, it is easier for companies and organizations to understand the terms and continue using the service.
Furthermore, this system is not limited to sales activities.
For business activities that utilize the anniversary—such as study sessions, research groups, education, public relations, events, and others—where it is difficult to draw a clear line between them and sales, we will handle them through individual contracts based on the specific usage.
For these activities, the conditions for applying the flat-rate royalty after the start of business use will be specified in individual contracts.
■ From Proposal to Business Use
The project generally follows the flow outlined below.
1. Companies, organizations, and other entities propose new business models or projects
2. Review of social significance, feasibility, and alignment with the program’s objectives
3. The project is selected
4. Individual contracts are concluded for non-exclusive commercial use licenses
5. Business operations commence with no initial costs or initial license fees
6. After commercial use begins, a flat-rate royalty based on the contract terms is applied
7. Utilize the anniversary in accordance with each business model—such as sales, services, research, education, public relations, and events
8. Continue business operations while promoting social implementation and disseminating information
Specific royalty amounts, contract terms, scope of the license, terms of use, and other conditions will be stipulated in an individual contract following selection.
■ Two Licensing Models
[Official Type]
This model utilizes the “Advanced Science and Technology Commemorative Day,” which is already a registered trademark.
We accept project proposals from companies, organizations, and other entities; following review and selection, we enter into a business use license agreement and proceed with commercialization.
[Incubation Model]
This model targets cutting-edge technology themes for which a trademark application has not yet been filed.
We accept proposals for new business models and business ideas from companies, organizations, and others, and review the projects even before a trademark application is filed.
If a proposal is selected, the Japan X-TECH Federation will file the necessary trademark applications and cover the associated filing fees.
This model involves nurturing the business in collaboration with companies and other entities while simultaneously fostering the “New Advanced Science and Technology Day” initiative itself.
Both the Official Model and the Incubation Model are, in principle, non-exclusive.
■ “From a commemorative day to the next business venture.”
The Advanced Science and Technology Commemoration Day is not an initiative aimed solely at creating a commemorative day.
Learn about technology through the commemorative day.
Learn about its history and background.
New ideas are born from this.
Companies and organizations turn those ideas into business ventures.
And they lead to new applications in society.
November 6, “AGI Day,” is one such gateway.
Precisely because AGI does not yet exist, rather than waiting for the future, we should work backward from the future and start doing what we can now.
From this commemorative day, let’s launch our next initiative.
We will connect the history of cutting-edge science and technology to new ideas and their implementation in society.
