From Kyohei Sorita’s new CD—his first in about three years, marking the 10th anniversary of his debut— Mozart’s “Piano Concerto No. 27,” 3rd Movement, is now available for early digital release, and the music video has been unveiled.

Pianist and conductor Kyohei Sorita, who won second place at the International Chopin Piano Competition held in Warsaw in 2021—the highest ranking ever achieved by a Japanese musician.In August 2025, he made his conducting debut with the Mozarteum Orchestra at the “Mozart Matinée,” a signature series of the Salzburg Festival—one of the world’s three major music festivals.Furthermore, he became the first artist in history to be invited to the festival as both a soloist and a conductor.

In 2026, marking the 10th anniversary of his debut, he will release his new CD, “Kyohei Handa (Conductor/Piano): Mozart—Piano Concertos No. 20 and No. 27,” on Wednesday, October 21—his first new recording in approximately three years.He will also release the Blu-ray “Kyohei Sorita: Salzburg Festival Debut <Mozart Matinee>” on the same day.

Ahead of these releases, the track “Mozart: Piano Concerto No. 27, Movement 3” became available for early digital download starting at 12:00 a.m. on Friday, September 18, 2026.Furthermore, at 6:00 p.m. on the same day, a music video for “Mozart: Piano Concerto No. 27, 3rd Movement (Excerpt)” was released.

Since their first collaboration in 2024, Kyohei Sorita and the Salzburg Mozarteum Orchestra have deepened their trust and musical chemistry with every performance.Following Sorita’s striking debut at the Salzburg Festival in 2025, this long-awaited recording has finally come to fruition.Sorita, who is breaking new ground as both a pianist and a conductor, takes the podium to perform in the very place associated with Mozart. In 2021, he won second place at the International Chopin Piano Competition held in Warsaw, achieving the highest ranking ever attained by a Japanese competitor.In August 2025, he made his conducting debut with the Mozarteum Orchestra at the “Mozart Matinées,” a signature series of the Salzburg Festival—one of the world’s three major music festivals.He also became the first artist in history to be invited to the festival simultaneously as both a soloist and a conductor, making a strong impression on the European music world, including the local media.

Beginning with a concert at the Mariinsky Theatre in 2015, he has performed around the world. Highlights of the 2024–2025 season included his debut as a last-minute replacement at the Ruhr Piano Festival in Germany, as well as appearances at music festivals and orchestral subscription concerts worldwide.His performance at the Ruhr Piano Festival, in particular, was widely acclaimed by local media and others. The 2026–2027 season marks the 10th anniversary of his debut, and he is scheduled to embark on a recital tour of Europe—including a performance at the Berlin Philharmonie—and to reunite with the Mozarteum Orchestra as a conductor.

Orchestras with which he has performed include the Berlin German Symphony Orchestra, the RAI National Symphony Orchestra, the Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra, the Munich Philharmonic, the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra, the Tonhalle Orchestra, the Russian National Orchestra, and the Warsaw National Philharmonic, among many others.

Alongside his performing career, he serves as music director of the Japan National Orchestra, which he founded, and manages the record label “NOVA Record.” He is also actively involved in promoting musical culture, such as by hosting the music salon “Solistiade,” which connects young musicians with audiences.

In 2024, he was selected for Forbes’ “30 Under 30 Asia” list and is highly acclaimed as the “most hard-to-get-tickets-for artist,” exuding a unique presence both on stage and in business.
