Visit the World Heritage Site “Asuka and Fujiwara Capital Cities” by Public Transportation in this Autumn Notice Posted on Official Website to Raise Awareness

The Asuka Tourism Association (General Incorporated Association; Location: Asuka Village, Nara Prefecture; Representative: Yuji Tanaka) is encouraging everyone planning to visit the World Heritage Site “Asuka and Fujiwara Palace Cities” to “use public transportation,” and has posted this message on its official website.

We hope that this World Heritage designation will provide an opportunity for everyone to appreciate the site’s value and experience the “historical landscape” that people have nurtured over the years to preserve the roots of Japanese culture.

However, to preserve this environment, the capacity of roads and parking lots is extremely limited. To prevent traffic congestion and illegal parking, and to ensure that visitors and local residents can coexist in a spirit of mutual consideration, please use public transportation when visiting.

From the main railway stations, please combine modes of transportation—such as buses, rental bicycles, and electric mobility options—with walking, and take your time to enjoy the charm of the area that can only be fully appreciated through a leisurely journey.

■For Visitors Arriving by Car

Public parking lots within Asuka Village are now operating under new policies, such as advance reservation requirements, the introduction of fees, and rate increases. Please be sure to check the information in advance to ensure a smooth, safe, and worry-free travel and parking experience.

For example, the Ishibutai Parking Lot—which sees the highest number of visitors—will operate on a strictly reservation-only basis for standard-sized vehicles during the period listed below.

≪Ishibutai Kofun Parking Lot≫

Location: Shimashō, Asuka Village, Takaichi District, Nara Prefecture

Period: Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays from September 19, 2026 (Sat) to November 15, 2026 (Sun)

Fee: 2,000 yen per day (9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.)
