A tea originally developed as a finale for Japanese restaurants has earned a Guinness World Record
◆What Is “Hōju-cha” (18-Herb Tea)?
A blend of 18 types of wild herbs known for their health benefits. Developed over a three-year period by chef Yuji Kuramochi and a wild herb researcher as the traditional closing tea for “Shinjuku Aguraya,” a long-established Japanese restaurant in Kabukicho, Shinjuku, Tokyo. This health tea made from wild herbs went on general sale in August 1993.
The 18 types of wild herbs are blended according to their specific characteristics. By carefully tailoring the cutting method for each herb and adjusting the roasting temperature and time to suit the unique properties of each of the 18 varieties, the tea has become a delicious and easy-to-drink wild herb tea—marking its 33rd anniversary since its launch in August 2026.Since it contains zero caffeine and tannins, it can be enjoyed by everyone—from infants and pregnant women to the elderly. It is available in 1kg, 200g, and 100g sizes. One tablespoon (approximately 10g) yields about 10 teapots (approximately 2 liters) of tea.
