Sharing Educational Practices for Sports Pharmacists with Pharmacists from More Than 10 Countries Midoriya Pharmacy to Present Research at FIP 2026

— Results of Education on the Proper Use of Medicines for Indonesian Elementary School Students Presented at an International Conference —

Midoriya Pharmacy LLC (Shimada City, Shizuoka Prefecture; Representative Partner: Masayuki Shimizu) presented a poster on August 30–September 2, 2026, at FIP2026/84th International Congress of the International Union of Pharmacists (FIP2026), held in Montreal, Canada, from August 30 to September 2, 2026, where it presented research findings on education regarding the proper use of medicines for elementary school students, conducted on the island of Bali, Indonesia, in a poster presentation.

We had previously announced plans for this presentation in a press release in August 2026; this report details the actual presentation held at the conference, along with feedback received from pharmacists and pharmacy professionals from around the world.

The presentation focused on a program for children on the proper use of medicines that leverages the values of sports, based on anti-doping education.

In January 2026, we implemented a 90-minute educational program—combining lectures, medicine experiments, and card games—for approximately 150 elementary school students at two local elementary schools on the island of Bali, Indonesia. We conducted surveys before and after the program and quantitatively evaluated its effectiveness by comparing changes in knowledge regarding medicines and other factors.

At FIP2026, we presented a report on these educational practices and learning outcomes under the title “Education on the Appropriate Use of Medicines through Game-Based Learning Grounded in Sporting Values: Learning Outcomes in Elementary Schools in Indonesia.”

In addition, an abstract of this study is scheduled for publication in the journal *Pharmacy Education*.

■ Introducing Our Activities to Pharmacists and Pharmacy Professionals from Over 10 Countries

During the poster session, we directly introduced the research content and the activities of sports pharmacists in Japan to approximately 20 pharmacists and pharmacy professionals from more than 10 countries.

In addition to receiving positive feedback praising the creativity of these educational methods—which utilize card games and characters—as initiatives led by pharmacists, there was also significant interest in the fact that Japanese pharmacists are involved not only in anti-doping but also in athlete support, the proper use of medications, and health education.

Despite differences in national contexts and the environments surrounding pharmacists, many pharmacists expressed interest in activities that support sports and athletes’ health, making this a valuable opportunity to exchange views with pharmacists from various countries.

■ An Educational Program Born from the Practice of Sports Pharmacists

This educational program utilized the card game “Doping Guardian,” developed by Midoriya Pharmacy LLC, as well as “Doping Yokai,” an educational resource featuring characters based on the categories of the WADA Prohibited List.

“Doping Guardian” is a card game originally developed as an anti-doping educational tool for professional athletes. It allows players to simulate decision-making scenarios involving medications and supplements, helping them learn about the risks of inadvertent doping and medication-related issues. Currently, it is used not only for athletes but also in medication education classes for children.

■From Implementation Through SFT Action+ to Presentation at an International Conference

This initiative was implemented as a project selected for Phase II of the Reiwa 7 SFTC Member Project Support Program “SFT Action+ (Plus),” in collaboration with the Faculty of Pharmacy at Shizuoka Prefectural University, Osaka Sangyo University, and schools and local stakeholders in Indonesia.

The SFTC (Sport for Tomorrow Consortium) is a public-private network that promotes international exchange and cooperation through sports.

By collaborating with universities and stakeholders both in Japan and abroad, we expanded the medication education classes and anti-doping activities that had been developed locally into educational practices overseas. We then evaluated the results as research and presented them internationally at FIP2026.

This presentation provided an opportunity to showcase internationally the potential for expanding the expertise of sports pharmacists beyond anti-doping to include medication education and educational research.

Moving forward, we will continue to link community-based practices to research, disseminate the results both domestically and internationally, and apply the insights gained from research to future community initiatives.
