The fall foliage season on the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route begins a little earlier than in the lowlands. The leaves start to change color in September at Murodo, the highest point on the Alpine Route, and the peak viewing period gradually moves down to lower-altitude areas through November.We will be posting the latest fall foliage updates for all 10 locations on our official website and social media channels until early November. [When Fall Foliage Begins and Peaks at Murodo Over the Past 10 Years]

Murodo, the highest point on the Alpine Route at an elevation of 2,450 meters, is popular as one of the earliest spots in Japan to enjoy fall foliage, as the leaves typically begin to turn red and yellow in September. Over the past 10 years, the average date for the start of color change has been September 4, and the peak viewing period has been September 23.

To mark the start of the fall foliage season, the Tateyama Kurobe Autumn Campaign, “2026 Tateyama Kurobe: Autumn Journey,” will begin on Tuesday, September 1, 2026.Starting on the first day, Tuesday, September 1, visitors who go to see Mikuri Pond will receive a “Fall Mikuri Pond Sticker,” and Restaurant Tateyama will begin serving its new menu item, the “Tateyama Sushi Set.” In addition, various music events will be held on specific dates at Murodo and Kurobe-daira.

By transferring between a variety of modes of transportation unique to mountainous areas—such as cable cars, buses, and ropeways—you can easily enjoy the breathtaking views of the Tateyama mountain range, which reaches altitudes of around 3,000 meters.Accessible from both the Toyama and Nagano sides, the one-way route allows you to fully enjoy major attractions such as Murodo Plain and the Kurobe Dam.
