Special exhibition commemorating the 60th anniversary of the museum's opening Muses – The Models Who Inspired Insho’s Art

Artists often portray their models as “Muses”—figures embodying sublime beauty. Domoto Insho (1891–1975) also dedicated his life to painting women. In his youth, he studied women from the traditional entertainment districts, capturing their allure and inner character. Later, as an active Nihon-ga painter, he approached depicting women through his artistic expression, exploring their beauty via a wide variety of methods ranging from traditional aesthetics to innovative techniques. This exhibition introduces the deep and rich world of Insho’s portrayals of women.

Dates: Thursday, October 15, 2026 - Sunday, December 20, 2026

Hours: 9:30 - 17:00 (last admission at 16:30)

Closed: Mondays (Open on November 23), November 24

Admission: Adults 600 yen (480 yen), high school and university students 450  yen (360 yen), seniors 65 and over 300 yen (240 yen) (official identification  required)

･Prices in parentheses are for groups of 20  or more.

･Junior high school students and younger and those with a disability certificate (including one caregiver) are free of charge.
