Hagiwara-cho, Gero City, Gifu Prefecture—where Tenryo Sake Brewery continues its sake-making traditions—is located in the Hida region, known for “Gero Onsen,” one of Japan’s three most famous hot springs.Tenryo Shuzo’s history began in 1680. With roots in the Omi Hino merchant class, the company has carried on its business through the ages and passed down the tradition of sake brewing in the Hida-Gero region. The Hida region, which includes Gero City, is the production area for the “Hida Beef” brand; ayu (sweetfish) thrive in its clear streams, and rice grows in the rice paddies nestled among the mountains. In Kosaka-cho, Gero City, at the foot of Mount Ontake, lies the “Kosaka Waterfall Tour,” a route where more than 200 waterfalls of various sizes are scattered throughout an area designated as a National Quasi-Park. The mountains and pure water support the region’s agriculture, culinary culture, and sake brewing. This sake is brewed using “Hida Homare,” a sake-brewing rice variety produced in Hida, and water from the Mount Ontake range. By combining ultra-soft water with a hardness of approximately 15, the rich umami of the rice, and the time-honored techniques of our brewers, we aim to create a sake with a soft and refined character.Hida beef, ayu sweetfish, rice, and sake. It is the mountains and the pure water that nurture the rich culinary traditions of this land. The rice, the water, and the brewing—all come from Hida. One of these bottles is now being served on board Singapore Airlines flights, connecting the world.

JUNMAI DAIGINJO HIDAHOMARE 50
A history dating back to 1680 and a challenge for the next 100 years
The history of Tenryo Shuzo began in 1680. With roots in the merchants of Omi Hino, the company has continued its legacy while adapting its business model over the years, and today produces sake, shochu, and other beverages in Gero City, Gifu Prefecture.Amid a declining population, a shortage of successors, and a changing environment surrounding the sake market, we believe that enhancing the value of locally brewed sake and promoting it both domestically and internationally will pave the way for the next 100 years. We are also working to advance temperature and hygiene control and to produce a diverse range of sake through small-batch brewing. Furthermore, Tenryo Shuzo has continued initiatives not only within Japan but also overseas to deliver sake brewed in Hida to as many people as possible. In the past, our sake was selected as an in-flight beverage for Japan Airlines (JAL) international business class. Now, through a new partnership, “TENRYO HIDAHOMARE JUNMAI DAIGINJO 50” has been selected as an in-flight beverage for Singapore Airlines’ Suite and First Class, leading to additional orders. For Tenryo Shuzo, it is a truly gratifying opportunity to introduce Hida’s sake to so many customers across countries and regions through airlines. We hope that through a single glass of sake, people will come to know Hida. While cherishing every connection we have made so far, we aim to share the appeal of Hida’s rice, water, terroir, and sake-making with the world.
Changing to preserve history. Taking root in the region and bearing fruit worldwide.
Singapore Airlines’ selection of our sake and subsequent additional order are yet another new connection we have forged as part of this journey.

5. Comments from Matsusuke Uenoda, Ninth-Generation Brewery Master and President & CEO
“I was delighted when I received the news of the selection, but seeing our sake actually served on board and receiving this additional order has given me a renewed sense of its great significance.I myself lived overseas when I was young, and at that time, I had no intention of taking over the family sake brewery. Later, I returned to Japan, took over sake brewing in my hometown, and now, the sake we brew in Hida is being enjoyed in the skies around the world. It’s not just sake that we want to share with the world.Through a single bottle of sake, we want to convey Hida’s rice, water, climate, cuisine, and the lives of the people who support sake brewing. If someone somewhere in the world drinks this sake and thinks, “I’d like to visit Hida,” I would be delighted if that led to such a future.Encouraged by this additional order, we will continue to take on global challenges while staying deeply rooted in our community.”
