[Comment from Chisato]

This year marks my 14th year as a musician.

While I’m happy to continue my activities centered in my hometown of Okayama Prefecture, I also sometimes feel various worries and anxieties. In those moments, it’s always been music that encourages me and helps me grow.

Thanks to everyone I’ve met through music, I’ve come to love it even more. Whether it’s offering encouragement or giving me the push I need to take a new step forward, music makes my life shine.

I created my new song, “Music Magic,” for the summer festival in my hometown of Satosho (https://www.town.satosho.okayama.jp/soshiki/3/12880.html), where I’ve been performing since 2013.“I want to offer something special to everyone who comes to see us this year too”—with that thought in mind, I began writing the song about two months before the event.

When I think of festivals, I think of cheerful, upbeat songs that everyone can sing along to and enjoy together. Even on days when we cry or feel down, I hope that listening to this music will lift everyone’s spirits. This song embodies that sentiment—it’s like “the magic of music.”

In terms of production, this is the first time I’ve incorporated a “tempo change.” The tempo shifts midway through the song, creating a section with a more relaxed atmosphere. I’d wanted to try this for several years, but I couldn’t come up with a good idea, so I hadn’t been able to make it happen. This time, with advice from arranger Ayumu Ishikawa, I was finally able to incorporate it into this song.

For me, music is life itself. The songs I create change depending on what I feel each day, the mistakes I make, and the people I meet.

To everyone who always cheers me on, and to all the people involved who support me, thank you so much.

[Comment from Ayumu Ishikawa]

This track, “Music Magic,” turned out to be a song packed with new challenges for me as well.

This song has so many different developments, and I aimed for an arrangement where each section offers a distinct atmosphere. As a result, the number of tracks used exceeded 100, making this one of the most meticulously crafted pieces I’ve ever produced.

I paid particular attention to the second chorus. In a complete shift from the pop atmosphere up to that point, I switched to a sound centered around acoustic instruments and deliberately applied a deep reverb to the vocals to create a soulful, gospel-like atmosphere.I also deliberately avoided quantizing the drums and bass so their groove would feel slightly recessed, meticulously crafting the arrangement to convey the warmth of a live performance throughout the entire sound.

Above all, I believe this track became such a captivating piece because Senri’s desire to “entertain everyone who comes to the festival” remained unwavering from start to finish. Thanks to the various ideas she proposed during the production process, the arrangement continued to evolve and expand.

I hope you’ll listen closely to the meticulous sound design and arrangements—and, just as the title “Music Magic” suggests, experience the “magic” that music holds.

■ Chisato Profile

I’m Chisato, a singer-songwriter from Satosho Town, Okayama Prefecture.

I joined OMS (now Voice Music Entertainment) in 2013 and began my career in earnest.

My fourth single, “Pray and Wish,” released in 2018, charted at No. 36 on the U.S. iTunes chart in the J-POP category.

This song was produced as a relief song to support recovery efforts following the “Western Japan Heavy Rains” that caused extensive damage in 2018, and “Kaze Fujii,” a singer-songwriter from my hometown who shared my vision, handled the piano arrangement.

Her 2019 album “JIGGY” ranked within the Top 50 J-Pop songs on Apple Music in various countries, including Vietnam, Nepal, and Laos.

In addition to live performances, she is active in a wide range of fields, including providing music and appearing in TV commercials (Hiramatsu Electrical Construction, the theme song for the 50th anniversary of Okayama Co-op’s reconstruction, the song for the Sunstar × Kyorindo collaboration product, Hasui Shoten, etc.), working as a radio personality, and producing videos.
