■ Background of the “Okinawa Crafts Fair (33rd Okinawa Crafts Fureai Plaza)”

This fair has been held for many years as a venue to widely promote the appeal of Okinawa’s traditional crafts and to directly connect artisans from the regions of origin with consumers.

Once again, crafts and artisans from 15 production regions—including traditional crafts such as Shuri-ori and Ryukyu Bingata—will gather in one place to directly convey the skills and passion of the creators. Additionally, a business matchmaking event will be held concurrently for companies aiming to develop products or create spatial designs using these crafts, with the goal of generating new business opportunities and revitalizing the production regions.

For the general public, the event features exhibitions and sales of traditional crafts, as well as a “Demonstration Corner” where visitors can witness the advanced techniques (“tiwaza”) of the artisans, and a “Hands-On Corner” where they can actually try their hand at the crafts.

Additionally, for businesses considering sourcing or collaborations, we will hold a “Business Matching Session” by advance reservation, where participants can consult directly with representatives from multiple production regions on the same day.

【The First Year of Shuri Castle Main Hall Reconstruction】

The Shuri Castle Main Hall is scheduled for completion in the fall of 2026, making 2026 a milestone year for its reconstruction. At this fair, we plan to sell commemorative merchandise marking the reconstruction of the Shuri Castle Main Hall.This is the only event held annually in Tokyo where Okinawan traditional crafts, along with their artisans and works, come together under one roof. It is an excellent opportunity to cover the traditional techniques passed down since the Ryukyu Kingdom era and the aspirations of the artisans who are carrying these traditions into the future.
