Kotobuki Seating Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Representatives: Shigeyuki Fukazawa and Keiko Fukazawa; hereinafter referred to as “the Company”) will unveil design renderings of its new capsule bed product, “TENON,” on Tuesday, August 4, 2026.
Against the backdrop of a year-on-year increase in inbound tourism and soaring accommodation rates—which has led to growing demand for capsule hotels—the Company is developing a new capsule bed designed to maximize each hotel’s unique character.
This product is scheduled to go on sale in the spring of 2027.

■Background of Development
According to the results of the Survey on Inbound Tourism Consumption Trends for January–March 2026 (Preliminary Report) released by the Japan Tourism Agency, consumer spending by foreign visitors to Japan reached 2.3378 trillion yen (up 2.5% year-on-year), setting a record high for that period. In addition, the number of domestic travelers—including those making trips to attend live events or visit “holy sites” related to their favorite idols—is steadily increasing, and travelers are now flooding every corner of Japan.
Along with this rising demand, accommodation costs at travel destinations are also soaring. While modern travelers are willing to spend money on intangible values such as “experiential consumption” and “experiences,” they also prioritize value for money and cost-effectiveness, seeking to keep accommodation costs as low as possible. Capsule hotels are meeting this demand.
Numerous capsule hotels line the streets, particularly in urban areas, and each hotel strives to differentiate itself from the competition by offering features such as saunas and spas, a wide range of complimentary services, state-of-the-art amenities, and modern interior designs. Therefore, we set out to develop a new product that overturns the conventional, one-size-fits-all concept of capsule beds and can be easily customized to match the owner’s vision and the guest room space.
■ “TENON” Design Concept
The design concept is “Departing for the Dream World.” Inside each capsule, lighting designed to resemble small windows—evoking images of airplanes or bullet trains—creates a sense of excitement akin to traveling toward a destination, lulling guests into a restful sleep. The design also gives the impression that natural light is streaming in, reducing the claustrophobic feeling often associated with capsules.
Furthermore, owners can choose from a variety of color options for the entrance panels, side panels, curtains, and other elements. By customizing these to match the brand image of the guest room space, hotels can achieve a unique, one-of-a-kind identity. This meets the needs of owners seeking to differentiate their properties from competitors and create spaces that are Instagram-worthy.
