TETSUYA, celebrating the 25th anniversary of his solo debut, held the “TETSUYA 25th ANNIVERSARY LIVE” at Zepp Shinjuku on July 11, 2026.

The show opened with a video presentation tracing his 25-year career, and he captivated the audience with a rich, full-bodied band sound and a diverse setlist. He delivered a passionate performance that brought the entire venue together.

During the encore, he also conducted an audience recording for his “Like-an-Angel” project. Here’s our report on the concert, where he expressed his gratitude to the fans and shared his hope to continue walking alongside them in the future.

A photo of a baby appeared on the screen. From his childhood through his school years, to the time of his debut, and up to the present—the production incorporated visual elements commonly seen on social media in recent years, but in a more refined form.As his journey—marking the 25th anniversary of his solo debut—was projected up to the present, the logo for this concert appeared on the screen the very next moment. Then, the “real” TETSUYA made his entrance. A huge cheer erupted. The sharp, powerful sound of the band cut through the excitement. “TIGHTROPE” kicked off the show.

“TETSUYA 25th ANNIVERSARY LIVE,” held on July 11, 2026, at Zepp Shinjuku. The second performance began just like this.

The second performance featured a different setlist from the first. Both the stage and TETSUYA were bathed in pink lighting. Stylish visuals were projected onto the backdrop screen. Next up was “REVERSE.” Holding the microphone stand with both hands at waist height, he spun around in place.Though not a flashy move, it was a performance that exuded TETSUYA’s characteristic ease. His mid-to-low-range vocals smoothly traced the melody’s ups and downs. Toward the end of the song, he switched from the stand microphone to a handheld microphone to sing. He returned the microphone to the stand and moved on to “Can’t Stop Believin’.” As soon as he began singing, he switched back to the handheld microphone.During his solo concerts, TETSUYA frequently switches back and forth between the stand microphone and the handheld microphone in the middle of songs. He likely alternates within a single song between moments where he delivers the song directly from the front of the stage and moments where he moves freely around the stage to engage with the audience. It seemed to me that the way he handled the microphone itself was an extension of his expression as both a vocalist and a frontman.During his first MC, he greeted the audience, saying, “This is TETSUYA & The Juicy-Bananas. It’s our 25th anniversary. We won’t be playing 25 songs, but we’ll have a different setlist from our first album. Please enjoy yourselves until the very end.” Shouts of “Congratulations!” celebrating the 25th anniversary rang out from all over the venue.

Next up was “Fantastic Wonders.” The screen displayed a cobblestone street reminiscent of an old European town drenched in rain.TETSUYA’s clear falsetto resonated through the venue. During the interlude, he lowered his hips slightly, turned his palms upward, and moved his fingertips as if lightly clenching them while urging the audience on with “More, more!” TETSUYA’s LED-decorated microphone stand flashed red.During “For Whom the Bell Tolls,” notable for its loud bass drum sound, the audience chanted “Hey! Hey!” in unison. The timing and energy were spot on. This 25th anniversary marks not only TETSUYA’s journey but also that of the audience. The performance moves on to “Time Goes On ~Like a Bubble~.”The visuals changed. A cobblestone path after the rain had stopped. Plants sprouting. Raindrops glistened on tiny leaves, and that light eventually transformed into flowers. TETSUYA sang this medium-tempo song—with its elegant, memorable melody—carefully, note by note.In time with the line “Enveloped, everything was too dazzling,” lights from the back of the stage enveloped the entire venue, and during the interlude, moving lights illuminated the venue like sunlight filtering through the trees.In the latter half of the song, fallen leaves swirled across the cobblestones, and eventually, snow began to fall on the city. These visuals overlapped with the line, “Because confusion shuts out the seasons.”During “White Tulip,” as white petals fluttered across the screen, beautiful guitar phrases evoked a sense of openness, running parallel to TETSUYA’s soaring high notes. The audience’s faces lit up with joy at the band’s warm, inclusive ensemble and TETSUYA’s vocals.

He moved on to his MC segment. After flashing a smile and saying, “It feels great, doesn’t it?” he addressed the audience, adding, “Music is wonderful, isn’t it?” He then expressed his gratitude sincerely, saying, “I feel truly blessed to have been able to continue my solo career for 25 years. Thank you very much.”

However, what made this day special wasn’t just the second performance itself. TETSUYA’s day at Zepp Shinjuku was truly packed with events. He held two shows—one in the afternoon and one at night—and in between, he hosted a fan club-exclusive premium rehearsal preview for 100 fans selected by lottery from among those who purchased his latest single, “No Matter What.”Although he had previously held concerts with both a matinee and an evening show, this was the first time he had attempted to give fans a glimpse of the rehearsal between the first and second performances. After taking on this new challenge of sharing even the behind-the-scenes moments of the concert with his fans, TETSUYA returned to the stage to perform once more.Also, as he mentioned during his MC—"I have a lot to do today, so I’d like to move quickly on to the next song"—he streamed live on Instagram during the encore. The reason TETSUYA went to such lengths was simply to convey his gratitude to the fans who couldn’t attend the concert that day.

As the concert moved into its second half, the energy continued to rise. “lonely girl.” The LEDs on the stand microphone behind TETSUYA—who was singing with a handheld mic—flashed in seven colors. During “Roulette,” TETSUYA also grabbed a towel and spun it along with the audience.The breeze whipped up by the crowd reached all the way up to the second-floor seats where I was sitting, gently cooling my cheeks, which had grown hot from the summer heat.During the following song, “I WANNA BE WITH YOU,” TETSUYA moved from side to side across the stage, cupping his hand over his forehead in a gesture as if peering into the audience. He then placed his hand near his ear in a cute gesture, as if saying, “Let me hear your voices more,” further ramping up the audience’s excitement.As if responding to TETSUYA’s every move, loud singing and cheers echoed back from the floor. He didn’t use flashy words at all. Yet, his ability to connect with the audience through nothing but his expressions, gaze, and gestures alone is a stage presence unique to TETSUYA, honed through years of live performances.

“Are you ready to ride?” closed out the main set. From the very intro, a huge wave of clapping erupted. The Bananaman Brothers—a familiar presence for this song—also made an appearance, further amping up the party vibe of this track, which was perfect for the festive occasion.Both TETSUYA on stage and the audience raised their hands in unison to the beat. At that moment, the boundary between performers and audience had completely vanished, and the entire live house was creating a single piece of music.

From this point on, the concert entered a special moment unique to this day.

When TETSUYA returned to the stage for the encore, he called out to the audience, “Shall we try a little vocal exercise?” What followed was an audience recording session for a future release under the Like-an-Angel name.TETSUYA explained that although a live recording had been made during the final performance of Like-an-Angel’s national tour, “Like-an-Angel TOUR 2025-2026 “Crash to Rise”” (January 31, 2026, at Yokohama Bay Hall), but explained that due to technical issues, the audience’s voices could not be recorded in good quality. “I’d like to take this opportunity to record everyone’s voices,” he said.He candidly revealed the circumstances of the technical issues and chose to re-record in order to release a product he could be satisfied with. This decision conveyed TETSUYA’s sense of responsibility toward the project and his flexibility in responding to unexpected incidents.As he played back the audio on his iPad and gave detailed direction—calling out “from here” and “one more time”—his demeanor was quite different from that of the vocalist who had been leading the live performance just moments before. The audience, too, understood his intent and joined in with serious expressions, as if each person were participating in the creation of the work.In an instant, Zepp Shinjuku transformed from a live venue into a recording studio, and the barrier between the stage and the audience vanished. They even recorded an unreleased track of “Like-an-Angel,” which still lacked lyrics, and TETSUYA’s remark, “Make sure to memorize the melody and take it home with you,” drew laughter from the audience.

“Thank you for today. Well then, let’s record your ‘encore’ calls loud and clear,” he said, prompting another huge roar of “Encore!” from the crowd. The unique, once-in-a-lifetime atmosphere of the live performance was being etched directly into a future work. The audience was witnessing that special moment as active participants in the creative process.

Next, the band performed their latest single, “No Matter What.” Before the performance, TETSUYA expressed his gratitude once again: “Thank you for the 25th anniversary. It’s truly all thanks to you all.Thank you also to all the staff,” he said, expressing his gratitude once again. This 13th single released under the name TETSUYA—his first in approximately 4 years and 9 months—is a song that, as the title suggests, carries the message that he has no hesitation in protecting you, no matter the circumstances.This song was first performed at the fan club launch commemorative concert “CELUXE NIGHT (*)” held in July 2015, and was also performed at the “TETSUYA 15th ANNIVERSARY LIVE” concert in August 2017, which marked the 15th anniversary of his solo career.Additionally, live footage of the song is included in the live video “15th ANNIVERSARY LIVE,” which documents that concert. The simple phrase “no matter what happens” leaves room for listeners to connect their own various emotions to it. It is likely the listeners themselves—and TETSUYA, who continues to sing this song—who will complete the song’s meaning.Next, he performed “Eureka.” The final song was “15 1/2 (Fifteen Half).”

TETSUYA addressed the audience as he looked out over the crowd.

“Live shows are great, aren’t they? I’m so happy we got to spend such a wonderful time together. I hope we can keep making music together, grow older together, and create lots of happy memories in life.”

The audience responded with thunderous applause, each person adding their own words of appreciation. The phrase “Thank you!” was exchanged repeatedly throughout the venue. TETSUYA left the stage with his usual parting words: “See you later!”

The opening video showed TETSUYA as a baby, growing up over time until he became the man he is today. And the very last words he spoke were, “Let’s grow older together from now on.” The 25th anniversary isn’t just a milestone for looking back on the past. From this day forward, TETSUYA and his fans will continue to build new memories together, starting with the time that began on stage today.
