Kotobuki Seating Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Representatives: Shigeyuki Fukazawa and Keiko Fukazawa; hereinafter “the Company”) will begin sales of two new private room types created using capsule beds starting Wednesday, July 22, 2026.
In addition, starting on Wednesday, July 22—the first day of sales—the Company will exhibit at the “18th Hotel & Restaurant Show & FOODEX JAPAN in Kansai 2026 (Hoteles Kansai),” one of the largest comprehensive trade shows for the hospitality andfoodservice industries, “The 18th Hotel & Restaurant Show & FOODEX JAPAN in Kansai 2026 (Hoteres Kansai),” and will unveil these new products for the first time at our booth.
These products are a new solution that responds to the strong demand from hotel operators who wish to “create an environment as close as possible to a private room,” while maintaining the efficiency—the greatest advantage of capsule beds—of “being able to install many beds in a limited space.”Compared to our previously offered private-room-style models, this design reduces the floor space per room by approximately 30 percent, making it possible to accommodate a greater number of guest rooms (beds).

A New Private-Room Type Utilizing Capsule Beds
■ Background of Development: Growing “Demand for Private Rooms in Capsule Hotels” and Challenges Faced by Operators
Recently, against the backdrop of an increase in inbound tourists (foreign visitors to Japan), soaring accommodation costs, and more frequent trips to see favorite idols, the market for affordable and stylish capsule hotels has been expanding rapidly. While these hotels are particularly popular among Generation Y and younger demographics looking to keep accommodation costs down, there is a growing “demand for private rooms” among users who want “to stay in a space that offers at least some privacy while keeping costs low.”
However, while the conventional “side-opening private room layout” offers a high level of comfort, the floor area per room is somewhat large, presenting a challenge for hotels in that they “cannot accommodate a large number of guest rooms.” Therefore, we have developed two new, more compact types that allow the layout to be optimized to fit the shape of the installation space.
■ Two New Types That Can Be Selected Based on the Shape of the Installation Space
The conventional “side-open private room layout” faced the challenge of requiring a large floor area per room due to the inclusion of an antechamber (a space for desk work, etc.) equivalent in size to the capsule itself. These new types condense that same level of comfort into a more compact design.

Side-Open Private Booth Configuration (Conventional Product)
(1) Side-Open Diagonal Private Room Configuration
The entrances to the side-opening capsules are located on the left side for the upper tier and on the right side of the same wall for the lower tier (or vice versa), with walls erected to partition off each entrance and create individual booths.By reducing the size of the antechamber—the area before entering the capsule—to half that of conventional designs, the floor space required is minimized. This layout is ideal for situations where you want to maximize the number of guest rooms within a limited space.

Side-Opening Diagonal Private Room Layout
(2) Front-Open Private Room Layout
In the front-opening capsule layout, the entrances and exits are positioned on opposite sides of the capsule (top and bottom), and private rooms are created by placing an antechamber in front of each entrance and exit. While the per-person floor area is the same as in the side-opening diagonal private room layout, the layout requires a passageway in front of each antechamber. You can choose this layout based on the shape of the installation space.

Front-Open Private Room Layout
■ The Benefits of “Private Rooms” Made Possible by Capsule Beds
Since capsule hotels operate as “simple lodging facilities” under the law, individual beds cannot be locked. Therefore, entrances are typically partitioned using curtains or roller blinds.
Our private room type achieves a double layer of separation by providing an entrance to the antechamber in addition to the entrance to the capsule itself. This significantly enhances the sense of security while inside and greatly improves the comfort of the private space.
This next-generation solution for capsule hotels balances the needs of hotel operators—who want to “efficiently maximize the number of guest rooms (beds) within a limited space”—with the needs of guests—who want to “stay in a private space enclosed on all sides.”
■ “Hoteles Kansai 2026” Exhibition Overview
We will be showcasing this product at a trade show held in conjunction with its launch. Visitors will be able to directly experience and confirm the genuine “sense of privacy” and excellent spatial efficiency of the product.

In 1979, we developed and delivered Japan’s first capsule beds to “Capsule Inn Osaka,” Japan’s first capsule hotel. Since then, our beds have been installed not only in numerous capsule hotels but also in nap rooms at many 24-hour operations, including government agencies, railway companies, newspaper publishers, and television stations.Currently, our products are being adopted not only domestically but also overseas, including in the nap rooms of Hyundai Card, a major South Korean credit card company, and on passenger ferries operated by Sweden’s “Stena Line.” Our cumulative delivery total stands at approximately 60,000 beds.
