[A New Way to “Spot” Kidney Disease in Cats] JIN Katsu Research Institute Launches Crowdfunding for Its Patent-Pending Cat Urine Health Check Sheet, “JIN Nyan Sign,” on CAMPFIRE Starting June 15

As new possibilities for treating feline kidney disease—such as AIM therapy—gain attention, a development project is underway to create a test strip that helps pet owners notice "unusual changes" in their cat's urine at home.

Hayashi Giken Co., Ltd.'s JIN Katsu Laboratory will launch a crowdfunding campaign on CAMPFIRE at 8:00 a.m. on June 15, 2026, for "JIN Nyan Sign," a cat urine health check sheet designed to help owners detect changes in their cat's urine in their home toilet and notice any "unusual changes" in their beloved pet.

Sheet designed to help monitor your cat’s kidney health currently in development (patent pending) listed on CAMPFIRE crowdfunding

■About JIN Nyan Sign

JIN Nyan Sign is a new check sheet currently under development, officially titled the "Cat Urine Health Check Sheet."

It aims to help owners notice changes in their cat’s urine by checking it in their home litter box, serving as a trigger for them to realize, “Something might be a little different from usual.”

This technology has been patented.

In recent years, significant attention has been focused on new developments surrounding feline kidney disease, including research and potential treatments related to AIM proteins.

While treatment and care options are expanding, a major challenge for pet owners remains: “When will I notice that something is wrong with my cat?”

JINにゃんサインは、家庭での小さな気づきを動物病院への相談につなげることを目指して開発しています。

JIN Nyan Sign was developed with the goal of connecting small observations made at home to consultations at veterinary clinics.

In the early stages, kidney disease in cats can be difficult to detect through visible changes.

Additionally, since many cats are indoor pets, they don’t have as many opportunities to visit the vet as regularly as dogs do.

This is not simply because “taking them to the vet is a hassle.”

There is significant stress associated with being placed in a carrier.

Anxiety about accidental contact with other cats or animals at the clinic.

The cat becoming wary of its owner after returning home.

The difficulty of rebuilding the trust between the cat and the owner once it has been broken.

Because of these realities, owners often feel that

"They seem a little down,"

"But I’m not sure if it’s serious enough to take them to the vet,"

"I’d rather wait and see a little longer than cause them stress,"

and find themselves torn.

However, during that “wait-and-see” period, their condition can quietly deteriorate.

In fact, it’s not uncommon for owners to wait and see in situations where it’s difficult to take their cat to the vet, only to find their cat completely lethargic one day. By the time they rush them to the hospital, the kidney disease has often progressed significantly, leaving limited treatment options.

猫を動物病院へ連れて行く際には、猫へのストレス、飼い主様の負担、受診判断の難しさなど、さまざまなハードルがあります。

When taking a cat to the vet, there are various hurdles to overcome, such as the stress on the cat, the burden on the owner, and the difficulty in deciding when to seek medical care.

On the other hand, medical care for feline kidney disease is gradually beginning to change.

Given the promise of new research and treatments, such as those represented by AIM, we believe the value of “detecting the problem early and seeking advice promptly” is greater than ever before.

Of course, the question remains: which treatment is right for your cat?

When and how should decisions be made?

These decisions must always be made by a veterinarian at a veterinary clinic.

JIN Nyan Sign is not a tool for diagnosing illness.

It does not determine a specific diagnosis, nor does it provide treatment.

Our goal is to help you notice small signs in everyday life.

"This is a little concerning"

"Maybe I should consult with a vet."

Our goal is to create that spark of awareness right from your home’s litter box.

Now, as treatment and care options continue to expand, we want to evolve the “awareness” that comes before them.

It is with this vision in mind that we are developing JIN Nyan Sign.

The final decision must always be made in consultation with a veterinarian at a veterinary clinic.

However, as a preliminary step, we aim to create new options that help pet owners notice their beloved cat’s subtle signs.

At the JIN Katsu Research Institute, we have been disseminating information and developing products focused on maintaining the health of dogs and cats, particularly regarding kidney health.

"JIN Power 100," developed by Hayashi Giken Co., Ltd. and made from 100% Angelica dahurica, has gained significant recognition over the past year and a half.

On Rakuten Ichiba, it has occasionally ranked first alongside major supplement brands, and through features such as the lead article in the January 2026 issue of the peer-reviewed journal “New Food Industry,” it is gaining attention from experts, including veterinarians.

Additionally, our e-book project “My Cat’s Kidney Disease Was Cured,” launched on CAMPFIRE last year, received significant support and ranked first in CAMPFIRE’s overall rankings.

This latest "JIN-nyan Sign" project is a new challenge born out of that momentum.

However, this project is not simply about selling a finished product.

We are currently conducting ongoing pilot tests and making improvements, and we are openly sharing the challenges that have emerged during development without hiding them.

In a pilot test conducted in April 2026, when we followed the original manual and left the test strip in place for three days, more urine than expected remained on the strip, making it difficult to interpret the results correctly in some cases.

We subsequently revised the manual to instruct users to “remove the sheet immediately after urination,” which allowed us to confirm the reaction in some cases; however, this also revealed new challenges.

A particularly significant issue was the individual variation in urine volume among cats.

Initially, differences exceeding 100-fold were observed, and even after the manual was revised, differences of nearly 30-fold were confirmed.

Even if things go well in the ideal laboratory environment, it’s not that simple in actual home settings.

That is why we are aiming to create a more user-friendly product through repeated retesting and improvements based on real-world data from the field.

Additionally, households with multiple cats often face the problem of not knowing which cat produced the urine.

Therefore, for this crowdfunding campaign, we are offering a “Multi-Cat Peace of Mind Set” as a reward that supports the method of collecting urine and dispensing it with a dropper.

Through this crowdfunding campaign, the JIN Katsu Research Institute hopes to develop JIN Nyan Sign together with the pet owners who need it.

■ About Hayashi Giken Co., Ltd. / JIN Katsu Research Institute

Hayashi Giken Co., Ltd. focuses on the endangered plant "Inutouki" and conducts research and product development to support the health of dogs and cats.

"JIN Power 100," made with 100% Inutouki, has gained recognition among pet owners seeking to maintain their cats’ and dogs’ health, and has even ranked No. 1 on Rakuten Ichiba.

Furthermore, interest from experts is growing, as evidenced by its feature in the lead article of the January 2026 issue of the peer-reviewed journal "New Food Industry."

Furthermore, our e-book project "My Cat’s Kidney Disease Was Cured," launched on CAMPFIRE last year, ranked No. 1 on CAMPFIRE’s overall rankings.

At the JIN-Katsu Research Institute, we provide information—primarily focused on the kidneys of beloved cats and dogs—regarding daily meals, lifestyle, and health maintenance, with the aim of offering insights that pet owners will feel glad they knew.

We are currently developing this new "JIN Nyan Sign" as a new option to help protect precious moments with your beloved cat, based on small observations made at home.

■Message from the Representative

Kidney disease in cats can progress very quietly.

It is not uncommon for the condition to have already progressed significantly by the time the owner notices it.

"Let’s just wait and see for a bit."

I don’t think that decision was necessarily a mistake on the owner’s part.

Taking a cat to the vet places a significant burden on both the cat and the owner.

That’s why it’s only natural to hesitate.

However, the disease can progress during that time.

At the same time, attention is also focusing on the possibilities surrounding feline kidney disease, such as research related to AIM proteins and hopes for new treatments.

Precisely because we live in an era where treatment and care options are evolving, we want to evolve the “awareness” that comes before them as well.

JIN Nyan Sign is not yet complete.

There have been failures.

There have been unexpected challenges.

Still, we are definitely moving forward.

We hope this small sheet will help shift the mindset from

help shift people’s mindset from

to “Maybe I should take a look.”

I would be delighted to help grow JIN Nyan Sign together with all cat owners.
