Aobakasei Co. (Headquarters: Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture; President: Kaori Ishida) has succeeded in stabilizing plasmalogen, which is said to be highly unstable, and has begun full-scale sales of Hoya-Pla, a dietary supplement containing the powder manufactured in-house. The product will be sold mainly at aoba kitchen, a store on Rakuten Ichiba, as well as in stores at events and retail sales.

Ingredient "Plasmalogen

Plasmalogen is a type of lipid found in the human brain, nerves, heart, and muscles, and plays an important role in protecting the body from inflammation and oxidative stress. However, it has been reported (DOI: 10.5551/jat.14.12) that plasmalogens in the brain decrease with age, and plasmalogens have been attracting attention as an ingredient for brain care in recent years.

The greatest feature of this product is that it contains stabilized plasmalogen.

While plasmalogen has been the focus of much attention for its functionality, its unique structure makes it highly reactive and unstable, making it difficult to use in industry.

By making full use of our proprietary powder technology (enzyme cross-linked gelatin microencapsulation technology), we have succeeded in significantly improving the plasmalogen residual rate in products and stabilizing plasmalogen, leading to the launch of the "Hoya-Pla" supplement.

Regional and Industry-Academia Collaboration

Hoya is a familiar food in Miyagi and other parts of the Tohoku region, and is a rare food that contains all the five basic tastes of sweet, sour, salty, bitter, and umami. It is rich in vitamins, minerals, taurine, DHA, and other nutrients, and is also reported to contain high levels of plasmalogens, which have the same structure as the human brain (DOI: 10.1007/s11745-015-4112-y). Hoya-Pla is made entirely from the peeled (edible) parts of hoya without extracting any components, and the rich nutrients of hoya, including plasmalogen, are contained in the product as a whole.

Together with Professor Miyazawa of Tohoku University's New Industry Creation Hatchery Center (NICHe), who has long been studying plasmalogens in sea squirt, we began research and development of plasmalogen powder (R3 Support-in Project), and with the cooperation of local companies and universities, we finally succeeded in bringing "Hoya-Pla" to market. We will deliver products filled with the charms of Tohoku to all over Japan.
