Electronic Service Initiative, Ltd.
SOJA CITY, OKAYAMA, April 23, 2026 —Electronic Service Initiative, Ltd. (ESI), a leader in open-source security maintenance, announced today that it has entered into a strategic partnership with U.S.-based HeroDevs. This agreement makes ESI the first partner in Japan to offer HeroDevs’ “Never-Ending Support” (NES) for Open Source, providing a lifeline for organizations utilizing software that has reached its official End-of-Life (EOL).

HeroDevs X ESI
Since 2000, ESI has provided system development, security consulting, and source code review services utilizing open-source products, and since 2008, the company has offered extended maintenance services for PHP. ESI currently provides the “PHP Security Maintenance Service” for PHP versions 5.4 through 8.1, and has built a strong track record in maintaining the security of legacy environments.
With this new agreement, ESI is now positioned to offer extended maintenance services not only for PHP but also for a broader range of open-source products, including JavaScript, Java, and Python. By combining HeroDevs’ extensive technical expertise with ESI’s long-standing know-how in extended maintenance, we will further strengthen our support framework to ensure that organizations can continue using open-source products that have reached End of Life (EOL) in a secure manner.
Background and purpose of the agreement
Open-source products have become indispensable to many modern IT systems. However, the support lifecycles of open-source products are shorter than the operational lifecycles required by enterprises, creating significant security risks once products reach End of Life (EOL).
HeroDevs’ NES provides seamless, drop-in replacement packages that require no architectural changes, allowing organizations to remain secure and compliant without the immediate need for costly and risky migrations. The service is trusted by more than 900 organizations worldwide, including nearly half of the Fortune 100.
NES supports a wide variety of technologies, including JavaScript frameworks such as AngularJS, Next.js, and Vue.js; Java frameworks such as Spring and Struts; as well as PHP, Django, and other web-related technologies.
Through this partnership, ESI and HeroDevs will combine their strengths to establish a framework that enables rapid delivery of extended support services for open-source products, ensuring that more customers can continue using their systems with confidence. This collaboration will help maintain essential IT security while maximizing the return on IT investments.
Additionally, purchasing NES through ESI enables Japanese customers to benefit from contract procedures in Japanese, domestic payment options, and localized technical support—providing an environment tailored to the needs of companies operating in Japan.
Comment from Yasuo Ohgaki, President and Representative Director of ESI
"We are excited to formalize this partnership with HeroDevs. Since 2008, ESI has been committed to helping enterprises maintain secure legacy environments, and by combining our local support infrastructure with HeroDevs' broad NES coverage, we can now offer a truly comprehensive solution for managing end-of-life open-source risk in Japan."
Aaron Mitchell, CEO of HeroDevs, commented,
"We're thrilled to partner with ESI to bring Never-Ending Support to Japan. Their nearly two decades of extended maintenance expertise and deep roots in the market make them the ideal partner — and together, we're ensuring Japanese enterprises no longer have to choose between costly migrations and unpatched security risk."
