The Calligraphy Dojo, led by calligrapher Soho Takeda, will hold its 10th exhibition, "Calligraphy Dojo Exhibition: Hanamuke," at Shimadai Gallery in Karasuma Oike, Kyoto, from March 18 (Wed) to March 22 (Sun), 2026. The exhibition will feature more than 100 works of calligraphy by the students of the school. The works range from classic Japanese calligraphy to original works of art. Under the concept of "an amusement park of calligraphy," the exhibition will offer visitors five days to experience calligraphy in a more familiar way.

Five days to experience the "now" of calligraphy
This exhibition will feature over 100 works by Takeda Soho Dojo students. The exhibition will feature over 100 works by students, ranging from classic Japanese calligraphy to original works of art. Posture, breathing, and margins. The physicality, which cannot be reproduced digitally, creates a sense of tension in the space.
Works by Futaba Takeda (President of Futaba Calligraphy Association), Sobo Takeda (Master of Calligraphy Dojo), and Soryu Takeda (President of Futaba Calligraphy Association) will also be exhibited.

Exhibition at the storehouse
Live performance of giant works of art will also be held.
During the exhibition period, a live performance of calligraphy will be held on the stage. The sound of a running brush, the smell of ink, and the silence of the venue.
You will be able to experience the moment when a giant work of art is created right before your eyes.

Participatory activities for children and adults
A short presentation rally and calligraphy workshop will be held. Parents, children, students, and beginners are welcome to participate without any reservation. Reservations are not required. Information will be provided at the venue on the day of the event.
Please note that there may be times when you will not be able to participate due to preparation for performances, etc.
As the concept of "Calligraphy Amusement Park" suggests, this exhibition is not only for viewing, but also for interacting with and experiencing.

Beyond the Exhibition - Trial Enrollment Information
During the exhibition, we will be accepting trial memberships for the Calligraphy Dojo. Many of the works on display are not the result of special talent, but rather the result of daily accumulation.
I want to pick up a brush again.
I want to learn calligraphy in earnest.
I want my child to experience real calligraphy.
The exhibition will serve as a gateway for those who feel this way. There are currently more than 150 students enrolled in the dojo in Kyoto and Otsu.
We provide instruction for all levels of students, from beginners to experienced calligraphers.
From "seeing" to "starting. This 5-day program will help you take that first step.

Previous Exhibitions
This is the 10th exhibition. The number of visitors has been increasing year by year.
Last year, more than 1,300 people visited the exhibition over the five days. This year, we expect 1,500 to 2,000 visitors.

Profile of the organizer
Takeda Soho (Calligrapher)
Studied under his mother, Futaba Takeda since childhood. At the age of 23, he became a licensed administrative scrivener and social insurance labor consultant. At the age of 32, he became a certified calligrapher and collaborated with domestic and international companies as a calligraphy artist, including PUMA and Miele, and also gave lectures nationwide. He was awarded the 30th Ryukoku Encouragement Prize.
