Background: Shortage of construction management personnel in the construction industry

In Japan's construction industry, the number of skilled workers and construction management engineers is aging, and the number of young people entering the workforce is decreasing. Statistics from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) also indicate an uneven age structure among construction workers, and there are concerns about a shortage of human resources in the future.

In light of this situation, ROY Corporation designed an educational program linked to the Japanese qualification system for overseas students studying in science and engineering fields.

■Selection and specialized education from a pool of 100 students

This year, the program started with an orientation session, self-introduction, and basic Japanese (hiragana and katakana) education for approximately 100 civil engineering students from UPI and SANGGA BUANA UNIVERSITY. The specialized curriculum will begin in earnest in May 2026.

■Characteristics of the Curriculum

This program will systematically implement the following contents.

Japanese language education at the level of JLPT N2

Technical terminology education in the construction field

Preparation for the first certification test for Level 2 construction management engineers

Strengthening of writing skills and practical understanding required for the second level of the certification test

Practical training in report writing, business e-mail, etc.

In addition, the program will include on-the-job training at the ROY Architectural Training Center in Karawang, West Java, Indonesia, utilizing actual construction sites. Using scaffolding, interior design, roof repair, and painting as subjects, trainees will learn process management, safety management, and the viewpoints necessary for a construction management engineer in a practical manner.

Upon completion of the program, students gain one year of practical experience in construction management at ROY Corporation, with the aim of acquiring a second-class construction management engineer certification.

Educational Support and Community Contribution Activities

In conjunction with this program, ROY Corporation made a donation to the Green Program, which aims to support the development of both universities and reforestation activities in areas affected by typhoons and floods. The program aims to both support the education of young people in Indonesia and preserve the natural environment.

Future Prospects

ROY Corporation has established an architectural training center in Indonesia to provide Japanese-standard construction technology and Japanese language education in an integrated manner. ROY plans to expand the program to Jakarta, Bandung, and Bali, with the goal of producing 3,000 graduates per year by 2029. We are also looking to expand into fields covered by the Specific Skills System.
