DEN PROJECT (Location: Saitama City, Saitama Prefecture; Operated by: M.G.R. Co., Ltd.) will begin accepting orders for "Hon-datami-omote rubber-soled zori with brown cotton denim nasoori," a modern update of traditional footwear handcrafted by skilled artisans, from February 2026.

The best of traditional techniques: "Takumi no Waza" weaving more than 500 bamboo skins into one pair.

Since the Edo period, "hon-tatami-omote" has been valued for its use in formal wear.

Although the word "tatami" is generally associated with rushes, in the world of high-end footwear, it refers to natural bamboo bark.

This product is made of thinly torn bamboo bark, and skilled craftsmen weave it evenly with their fingertips, one by one, without twisting. This intricate weaving is the secret to the superb comfort and dignified beauty of the sole.

Two colors are available: the standard "Chatake," which takes full advantage of the texture of the bamboo skin, and the chic "Karasu," which has been dyed.

Hybrid Structure" to Support Modern Walking

While maintaining a traditional appearance, we pursued practicality for city walking. The midsole is made of high-density EVA material with excellent cushioning and durability, with black marble in a wood grain pattern. In addition, by applying slip-resistant rubber to the entire outsole, the shoes can be worn in any location, such as on the road surface after rain, without worry.

Design features: brown cotton denim and leather texture

The nose is made of "brown cotton denim," which becomes more durable as it is used more and more. The mae tsubo (the part that touches the fingers) and the sole of the sandal are made of high-quality leather (brown/white) that is comfortable to the feet, creating a modern pair that blends well with denim and casual wear as well as Japanese-style clothing.
