The Tokyo Metropolitan Government will hold the "69th Exhibition of Tokyo Traditional Crafts" from January 7 (Wed) to January 12 (Mon), 2026, at the Shinjuku Takashimaya Department Store, 11th floor. This exhibition, the largest of its kind in Tokyo, will bring together 40 traditional crafts from Tokyo, and a Wajima-nuri corner will be set up for display and sale to support the recovery from the Noto Peninsula Earthquake.

The 69th Tokyo Traditional Crafts Exhibition will be held under the theme of "New Year's Flowers: The Beauty of Edo and the Handicrafts of Artisans for Modern Life," bringing together gorgeous and beautiful traditional crafts to mark the start of a new year. Under the design theme of "turtle shell," new products will be exhibited and sold, expressing the prestige and splendor of traditional crafts through the auspiciousness of the turtle shell pattern and the beauty of its form.

The event will also feature demonstrations by craftspeople showing off their skills, performances of nagauta (traditional Japanese folk songs) (in cooperation with the Nagauta Association), a popular hands-on craft workshop where visitors can learn from craftspeople, a raffle to win wonderful craft items, a stamp rally that allows visitors to tour the booths, and much more.

On the demonstration stage, visitors will be able to see the production process of Tokyo's representative traditional crafts up close. This is a rare opportunity for visitors to experience firsthand the craftsmanship and artistry of these artisans as their expert skills unfold before their eyes. In addition, 30 booths will also feature daily demonstrations by craftspeople who will showcase their skills.

Experience the traditional craftsmanship of the craftspeople.

A total of 11 types of hands-on workshops where visitors can try their hand at making lanterns while learning from craftspeople will be offered, changing daily. These are popular contents such as making mini Edo hand-painted lanterns and Mokumekomi trays, which allow visitors to make their own original items that can only be made here. Booth tours to learn about the techniques of traditional crafts

Visitors can tour several traditional craft booths with a guide to learn about the background of the techniques and highlights of the crafts in an easy-to-understand manner. Wajima-nuri on display and for sale

In order to support Wajima-nuri, which was damaged by the Noto Peninsula Earthquake, a special booth will be set up to display and sell Wajima-nuri. A wide variety of Wajima-nuri products will be on display, from everyday use to luxury decorative items, allowing visitors to directly experience the techniques and beauty that have been passed down from generation to generation.
