We would like to create and disseminate content that tells the history of the birth of Japan, utilizing the historical heritage and cultural resources of the area known as Yamanobe-no-Sato, where the birth of the nation took place, in order to create a stir in historical awareness and promote the local community.

About the project

In the early Kofun period, when the first state was born in the archipelago, the center of the state was Sakurai (Momukai) and the area around the oldest road, Yamanobe no Michi (Tenri). The Yamato tumulus cluster (in the broad sense) includes the tombs of Emperor Sojin, the great king who founded the nation, Emperor Keiko, and the even older Nishidonotsuka tumulus (scientifically confirmed), the great royal tomb of the early Yamato kingdom.

This area was the stage for the transition from the era of coexistence and co-prosperity among many nations through Himiko's oracle to the birth of a nation ruled by authority and power.

Although archaeological research on the early Kofun period has progressed, there are no records of this period, and thus no efforts have been made to explain the birth of the nation. However, the earthenware excavated from the Nishidonotsuka tumulus and other burial mounds in this area, as well as the size and location of the burial mounds, remind us of the rise of Japan's first nation.

We will hold seminars to promote the charm of the region and create new content to convey the history and stories to shed light on the period of the birth of the nation.
