[Light up the winter night]

The city will be lit up with illuminations at the end of the year.

Especially the photogenic spots in SNS are very popular every year.

Japanese-style illumination of autumn leaves, cherry blossoms at night, and castles are popular not only among Japanese but also among foreign tourists.  Recently, fusions of light and sound, fragrances, and collaborations with characters and artworks are appeared.

The Light-up event wil be held at Myoshinji taizoin Temple in Kyoto from Dec.15(Mon.) to Dec.25(Thu).

The area to be illuminated includes "Motonobu's Garden", a dry landscape garden created by Motonobu Kano, which was designated in Muromachi period and was specified as a national place of scenic beauty and historic interest, and "Hyotan-Pond" in Yoko-en, a garden created by Kinsaku Nakane as a landscape architect, will be illuminated.

Unlike the glittering light of the city, the beautiful Japanese garden will be enveloped in a magical blue light.

"Hikaribori" works by Yurukawa Fu, the only one artist who creates works using the technique in the world, will be exhibited.

"Hikaribori" is a completed work using Styrofoam which is insulation material used for the interior walls of the building, and  LED lights illuminate from behind.  The surface of the insulation material is scraped or melted to create an uneven surface that appears to float three-dimensionally, and blue light seems to be absorbed into the work is fantastic.  The works are going to be exhibited in a dark place because the works must be used light, and it will be held in Taizo-in of Myoshin-ji Temple at a time when it is not usually open to the public.

◇Comment from Tsunanori Iwase, representative of the event organizer,  i-October Inc.

We decided to hold this event at Myoshinji Temple because we want to preserve the good old cultures of Kyoto for future generations.  Not only Japanese cultures but also light carving art are wonderful works inform to Japanese people and foreiners also.  I hope that many people in Japan and abroad could enjoy the collaboration of light carving and the illumination of the garden of Myoshinji Temple.

◇Comment from  HIKARIBORI artist YURUKAWA  FU

Hikaribori is the work which is brought-out the uneverness of the insulation materials used in construction by the light.  The shade which the typical art cannot express is the  feature of Hikaribori.

I hope you could enjoy one-of-a-kind work expressed with light, along with the fantastic lightning of the garden.
