Komatsu Ltd. (Head Office: Higashiosaka City, Osaka; President: Satoshi Komatsu) announces that its wallpaper AI identification application "KABEPITA," developed in an industry-academia collaboration with the Intelligent Mechanism Laboratory (Professor: Masahiro Okuda), Department of Intelligent Information Engineering, Faculty of Science and Engineering, Doshisha University, has reached over 30,000 members as of September, 2025.

To commemorate this milestone, we have released on September 30, 2025 the "Maker Refinement" function, which has been the most requested by users.

In order to improve convenience when wallpapers of a manufacturer displayed in the identification results are not available, we have added a function to narrow down the identification results by manufacturer.

By toggling between the 6 built-in manufacturers (Sangetsu, Shinkor, Tori, Tokiwa, Lilycolor, and Lunon), you can hide any manufacturer and display the most similar products from a specific manufacturer.

*Please set from Home > Functions > Maker Settings or Settings > Maker Settings.

What is KABEPITA?

When moving out of a rental apartment or redecorating as a DIY project, or when repairing graffiti left by children or scratches left by pets, there are times when it is difficult to find the manufacturer or part number of a particular wallpaper. This is a free application that solves such problems.

KABEPITA" incorporates approximately 600 types of popular wallpaper (mass-produced cloth) from six major Japanese manufacturers (Sangetsu, Shinkor, Tori, Tokiwa, Lilycolor, and Lunon). By simply photographing the wall with a smartphone, an AI-based automatic texture identification program analyzes the image and displays the manufacturer's name, product number, and catalog of the top five product numbers.

Main Features

Identification accuracy: Highest in the industry. Probability of correctly displaying the top candidate: Approx. 90%, Probability of being included in the top 5: Approx. 95%.

Shortened operation time: Reduced operation time from several hours to only a few seconds (depending on the communication environment).

Supports discontinued products: Even for discontinued or unregistered product numbers, the system displays the five most similar product numbers from the database.

The system can be used for a wide range of applications, including not only efficient identification of wallpaper, but also confirmation of limited installation areas, selection of materials for repair, design consideration, and coordination proposals.

We developed "Kabe Pita" with the aim of eliminating the inconvenience of not being able to identify wallpaper part numbers, and it is because of the feedback we have received from our users that we have been able to achieve 30,000 downloads of this application.

This application is designed specifically for popular wallpaper (mass-produced cloth), which is difficult to distinguish, and has been used as an essential tool by many people. Currently, this application does not support general-purpose wallpaper with high design quality, but we are working hard to develop it, so please keep your eyes peeled.

We will continue to listen to your feedback and evolve our service to make it more convenient and enjoyable.
