Characteristics of the Project

This project presents a unique fusion of balloon art and fashion at New York Fashion Week (NYFW), one of the world's most prestigious fashion events. Under the theme of "DIVERSITY," the collection features models with diverse abilities and backgrounds, including those with disabilities or health conditions. It is a conceptual collection that balances artistic expression with social significance.

The behind-the-scenes activities will also be documented through photos and videos.

Project Background

In 2020, Emi Jingu suffered a stroke during the COVID-19 pandemic and was diagnosed with moyamoya disease, a rare cerebrovascular disorder, undergoing bypass surgery. This experience inspired her to create the work *“Moyamoya Disease”*, in which the inside of a transparent balloon is colored with red paint to express the intricate structure of cerebral blood vessels in three dimensions.

She also created *“Life”*, a work modeled on her own body, reflecting the new life she experienced while living with the disease. The balloon gently enveloping her body symbolizes both the fragility and the strength of life.

The current collection *“DIVERSITY”* continues this exploration. By having models with disabilities and illnesses wear fragile balloons, the runway visualizes “life shining despite difficulties.” Although balloons are ephemeral, their momentary brilliance symbolizes the transience of life and the powerful beauty that emerges within it.

Comment from Emi Jingu

神宮エミ氏

Ms. Emi Jingu

Although balloons are not a lasting material, I feel they have the power to bring vibrancy to everything. In this collection, I expressed that radiance as a symbol of "diversity," thoughtfully reflecting the backgrounds and individuality of each model.

I believe that the colorful, high-quality balloons from Sempertex were essential in creating costumes with delicate and unique colors and textures.

I am excited to see how balloon art will be received on the world stage in New York as a new form of fashion carrying a social message—an endeavor filled with both challenge and hope.
