From Creation to Industrial Circulation "Kochi: The House of Fragrance" 3Rs! Valuing Circulation and Connection through Circular Innovation of WAYUKA

The Wayuka LABO (essential oil distillation studio) has realized the only carbon neutral essential oil distillation facility in Japan, and further evolved and developed it to implement carbon positive activities and realize the 3Rs with the concept of working together with nature and local communities.

Under the concept of "Circular Innovation," we have been working on circular economy, circular industry, circular communication, and initiatives that place importance on circulation and connection.

Together with the nature of WAYUUKA, we manufacture and sell 89 types of 100% natural fragrances from trees, citrus fruits, and crops, which are the resources and raw materials for essential oils in Kochi, the largest number of such products in Japan. We are utilizing resources and raw materials that would otherwise be discarded, and have recently realized the recycling of resources and raw materials into compost in cooperation with Himawari Coffee Compost (Nankoku City, Kochi Prefecture) as a cycle to return the residues generated after essential oil production to the soil.

Reduce : Carbon neutral (zero carbon dioxide, reduced transportation costs, zero waste)

Reuse: Reuse construction waste and other materials for thermal fuel

Recycle : Recycle resources and raw materials (fruit peels and thinned wood → refined oil → to compost and soil improvement → back to the soil)

The Sunflower Coffee Compost is expected to have a significant synergistic effect with the SDGs, as the materials from the aroma raw material will be used together with coffee bean residue as a countermeasure for the smell of the compost.

In addition, the Wayuka LABO is able to realize recycling of residues and zero waste initiatives, and even residues are seen as a great innovation recycling opportunity as a contribution to aroma. At the same time, the Sunflower Coffee Compost will be deployed at the entrance of the LABO site as the second store following the Sunflower Dairy site as a conscience market, and is expected to contribute to the convenience of small farmers in the Nouzu area of Hidaka Village, where the LABO is located.

Kochi Prefecture is rich in a bounty of crops and trees that are the raw materials for fragrances.

The prefecture boasts the highest percentage of forests in Japan, with mountains and forests of various heights, the largest variety of citrus fruits in Japan, cutting-edge agricultural crops, the largest amount of sunlight and rainfall in Japan, a mild climate, and a climate nurtured by people who warmly accept the prefecture's climate. We deliver natural fragrances by distilling and extracting essential oils from these blessed raw materials.

As a part of Kochi Prefecture's industrial promotion, we are working together with the local people to create "Kochi Kaorike"(TM) (Kochi Scent House), which creates fragrances for 34 cities, towns, villages, and regions, so that people can feel their hometowns and local climates.

We hope that the aroma of Kochi's climate and Japan will be used to soothe, relax, heal, invigorate, and entertain.

We are working together with local people to create an industry of fragrance, and to help the development of the secondary to sixth industries that are created by the primary industry from the perspective and appreciation of the agriculture and forestry industries in various regions of Japan, and at the same time, to be a model for regional development in the mountainous and rural areas of Japan.

Kochi Forest Vision Co., Ltd. signed an agreement with Hidaka Village on December 21, 2022, and is working to make Hidaka Village a "sacred place of fragrance. We also support Hidaka Village's 2050 Zero Carbon City Declaration and are working to develop environmentally friendly products at the only carbon-neutral essential oil production facility in Japan.
