Misaka Plateau, where there are no outdoor lights and city lights do not reach, is attracting attention as a stargazing spot because of its low light pollution. The lack of light pollution is proportional to the lack of houses and buildings, which is related to the progress of depopulation. However, since 2022, the town has been holding starry sky events to utilize this "darkness" as a unique local resource for tourism and community development.

Mishima is also working toward certification as a "starry sky reserve," an international certification system that recognizes outstanding efforts to protect and preserve the dark natural night sky free from the effects of light pollution.

The "Star Watching Tour 2025 - Misakano Yozora" to be held on Saturday, September 20, 2025, will include a lecture by Dr. Junichi Watanabe (Director and Senior Professor, Astronomy Information Center, National Astronomical Observatory of Japan) and a performance by saxophonist Masaya Yamaura of Quatuor B (Quatuor B Saxophonist Masaya Yamaura will perform a "Starlight Concert" with his friends from Quatuor B (Quatuor B). Other events such as a market, workshops, and camping will be planned so that many people can fully enjoy and appreciate the charms of the Misaka Highlands.
