Grand opening of "Roadside Station Sorat Makinohara" at 12:00 pm on July 18 (Fri.)
A "food theme park" that communicates the charms of the "town of tea," which boasts the largest tea plantations in Japan
Makinohara City in Shizuoka Prefecture is a "tea town" boasting the largest tea plantations in Japan. Since its cultivation in the Meiji period (1868-1912), the rich tea culture has been alive and well, centering on the Makinohara Grand Tea Plantation, which covers a total area of approximately 5,000 hectares. Looking up, you can see airplanes taking off from the airport and tea fields stretching out like waves. The "Roadside Station Sorat Makinohara" will be born at the place where the sky and the earth meet. The station consists of three buildings, with the produce stand in the center, the food and beverage stand on the left, and the restrooms and rest area on the right. In addition to fresh fruits and vegetables, livestock and marine products, various processed foods, and souvenirs, the direct sales area also features a sweets store selling pudding, soft-serve ice cream, and crepes made with matcha green tea, as well as baked goods made with matcha green tea in a bakery. In the food and beverage hall, visitors can enjoy gourmet tea dishes using Makinohara tea, the pride of the local area, and gourmet foods centering on local ingredients such as Suruga Bay shirasu (baby sardines), Yaizu bonito, Yumesaki beef, and Shiraito pork.
The roadside station aims to be a place where visitors can enjoy a warming moment and feel the richness of Shizuoka, as a center of culture, history, and nature, centering on "food" that makes the most of Shizuoka's abundant seafood and mountain produce in a magnificent setting.
