Komoro Zoo in Nagano Prefecture will reopen in the spring of 2026!

The Komoro Zoo (Director: Toshihiro Koizumi) in Komoro City, Nagano Prefecture, will reopen in the spring of 2026.

The zoo, which has been loved by the local community since its opening in 1926, is undergoing a major renovation of its facilities and services to improve animal welfare and the visitor experience in preparation for its upcoming 100th anniversary.

◆Toward an "evolving zoo" in the digital age

In addition to the complete renovation of the aging animal house, restrooms, and visitor facilities, the zoo will welcome new prairie dogs, alpacas, and chinchillas to its breeding area.

In addition, the park will begin using digital technology to provide 24-hour live streaming of its popular animals, the Humboldt penguins and flying squirrels, on YouTube. Visitors who are unable to come to the park or who live far away from the park will be able to enjoy the daily lives of the animals in real time. The nocturnal flying squirrels, in particular, are attracting attention for their nocturnal movements during the night, which are precious moments that can only be seen on live video.

◆Komoro Zoo Event Information

About the closure of the Komoro Zoo

The Komoro Zoo will be closed from June 1, 2025 to the end of March 2026 due to the construction of animal housing for the second phase of the zoo's development. During this period, the zoo will be closed for the entire period, and reduced and exempted fees will apply.

Walking ticket: 200 yen (tax included) for adults, 50 yen (tax included) for elementary and junior high school students.
