1,000 People Learning About "Tannisho"! The 6th "Tannisho University" will be held in Nagoya on April 29th! ～Organized by Tulip Planning Co.

700 years after it was written, the classic Pure Land Shin  Buddhist book "Tannisho" continues to amaze and fascinate its  readers. At "Tannisho University," you can learn in depth  about just what it is that makes this unique book so special. The event, which  will feature lectures, animated movie screenings, and more, will be run by  Tulip Planning Co. and will take place at Port Messe Nagoya on the national  holiday on April 29th, 2025 (Tuesday).

● A large-scale event themed on the  timeless classic "Tannisho," to be held in Nagoya for the  first time!

Tulip Planning Co. has been involved in the Tannisho  University as a special co-sponsor, contributing administrative staff, since it  was first held in 2022. This time, it will be the main organizer of the event.

"Tannisho" is a classic written about 700  years ago, but it has a universal message that resonates deeply with people  today. Having had a huge influence on great Japanese writers such as Shiba Ryotaro  and Yoshikawa Eiji, as well as philosophers such as Nishida Kitaro and Miki Kiyoshi,  and having also frequently appeared in Japanese school textbooks and university  entrance examinations, Tannisho's presence has been growing in lustre  throughout the ages.

This 6th festival in honour of Tannisho,  titled "Tannisho University, Nagoya Edition," will offer a fun  and varied program so that people in Aichi Prefecture and the Tokai region can  further experience the world of Tannisho.

● Movie Exhibit: "Shinran: The Purpose of Life," in which actor Sugi Ryotaro tried his hand at voice acting for the first time, as well as other movies related to Pure Land Shin Buddhism.

● Performance by Asakawa Hiroko: Live  singing of the ending theme song of the movie "Shinran: The Purpose of Life"

Asakawa Hiroko, who has sung many famous anime songs, provided her vocals for the ending theme song of "Shinran: The Purpose of Life". She will perform live on stage at the event.

Asakawa Hiroko made her debut in November 1985 with the image song "Green Poem" for the Japan National Railways (now JR) "Marugoto Shizen - Tohoku". With a clear, emotive, and pleasant voice, she has been featured in NHK's new radio songs and other fresh song lines. She is mainly active as a singer for anime, providing the theme songs for the likes of "Wizard Sally," "Sailor Moon S," and "Kirby!". Her latest release is a cover album that includes a song of gratitude for her mother, "Kokoro no Furusato," along with other timeless classics!

【The captivating words of Tannisho】

In "Tannisho Section III," we find the  famous quote, "Even a good person can attain happiness; how much more so  an evil person!" In other words, "Since even a good person can be  happy, an evil person can be even happier." It is commonly agreed that  "bad people should be unhappy and good people should be happy," yet  this seems to turn that notion on its head. Whatever could it mean? This quote  has fascinated and baffled many.

A number of great Japanese philosophers and writers have  left behind words of praise for this extraordinary work:

“Even if everything else perishes in the flames, I can bear  it as long as ‘Tannisho’ remains.”
