■About Eikaiwa Passport
Eikaiwa Passport began with one-on-one lessons at a cafe in Nara in 2005, when group lessons at major English conversation schools were still the norm. The idea for Eikaiwa Passport came from a question that our former president had when he started studying at a major English conversation school after experiencing difficulties speaking English in restaurants and hotels on overseas trips.
'Why are the lesson fees so high?'
Students of the same level are taught in the same way, using the same textbooks, but is this really the way to improve?
After much thought and consideration, I decided to create my own school that would offer lessons that were inexpensive and would really help students learn English, and Eikaiwa Passport was born.
This concept was well received by many, and before long the lessons that began at a single café in Nara spread to Sapporo and Fukuoka. However, the spread of the new coronavirus made it difficult to offer face-to-face lessons at cafes, and after a difficult decision, we completely shifted to online lessons.
Later, once the infection was under control, we began to receive many requests for face-to-face lessons with tutors, and last year, we resumed café lessons in Nara. Furthermore, in mid-March 2025, the Umeda area in Osaka will reopen, and in late March, Kyoto is scheduled to reopen as well.
