Details of "Tokyo Art Antiques 2025" Announced Talk Event by Artists Noted for their Skilled Techniques and Spirituality

Inheritance and Development of Arts and Crafts" at TODA HALL on Friday, April 25

Tokyo Art & Antiques Executive Committee

Tokyo Art & Antiques Executive Committee will hold "Tokyo Art & Antiques 2025 - Nihonbashi/Kyobashi Art Festival" ("Tokyo Art & Antiques") from April 24 (Thursday) to April 26 (Saturday), 2025. This year's festival will be the 15th of its kind, with 86 art galleries, and one organization participating.

A feature of this year's event, the 15th, was planned to focus on practical "learning" to enjoy art. Nihonbashi and Kyobashi have long been lined with galleries selling tea ceremony utensils and antiques, and today, with the addition of many contemporary art galleries, they have developed into cultural centers. In this town of art where culture is still alive, we have invited three artists whose works resonate with the idea of "inheriting techniques and ideas from the past and connecting them to the present" to give an artist talk.

For those who are interested in art but feel that it is difficult to understand, the artist talks are planned to deepen their understanding by learning about the process and background of the artist's creation, and furthermore, when they visit the gallery and view the works, they will enjoy viewing the works in a deeper realm and feel closer to them.

Sculptor Ikki Miyake is known for his style of working sincerely with wood and embodying the forms inherent in them. In particular, his representative series of "Shin zou sculptures," in which he carves the divinity from sacred trees, has been exhibited mainly at KOCHUKYO CO., LTD.. He deepens his own work by studying the elements of antique art that have come down through the ages. He will be holding a solo exhibition at KOCHUKYO CO., LTD. in the fall.

Ceramic artist Takefumi Aoki squeezes white porcelain clay into very small grains with a dropper-like tool, piles them together, and combines them with molded strip-shaped parts to create figurative works. The straight, geometric surface created by molding the clay and the light, airy surface created by hand-squeezing the clay one by one create a delicate shade of white and dignified harmony when exposed to light. A solo exhibition will be held at megumu art during the event period.

Another ceramic artist, Yuka Nishihisamatsu, is interested in the nests and activities of living creatures and the cycle of life, and extracts parts of these figures through drawings and transforms them into three-dimensional ceramic objects. He also decorates the surfaces of his works and creates a variety of expressions by using different glazes with different properties and expressions depending on the form. The theme of the exhibition is the "ring world" constructed by each creature in its own way, exploring the microscopic world. A solo exhibition will be held at ROD GALLERY during the event period.

The artist talk will be facilitated by Yuki Kondo of Mayuyama Ryusendo, a long-established antique gallery specializing in Oriental antiques, and Tsugumi Fujita, artist and director of the contemporary art gallery ROD GALLERY. They will pose questions to the artists from the viewpoints of their respective fields of expertise.
