Verification Facility for Next-Generation Technologies for High-Performance Data Centers Participating in the Joint Verification Project of the Data Center Trial Field ~Started development of liquid-cooled system load testing equipment for widespread use.
株式会社アステックス
ASTEX Corporation (Head Office: Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Katsutoshi Sakurai; hereinafter referred to as "ASTEX"), a provider of emergency power supply load testing services, has announced a joint verification project (hereinafter referred to as "Joint Verification Project") for the Data Center Trial Field, a verification facility to be opened in November 2024 by NTT DATA Corporation (Head Office: Koto-ku, Tokyo; President: Yutaka Sasaki; hereinafter referred to as "NTT DATA") and Hibiya General Equipment Co. (headquartered in Minato-ku, Tokyo; Hidetaka Nakakita, President; hereinafter "Hibiya General Equipment") will participate in a joint verification project (hereinafter "the Project") for the "Data Center Trial Field," a verification facility to be opened in November 2024. This facility was established to promote the use of liquid cooling technology in data centers.
■Background of Participation
Since 2013, Astex has been involved in performance verification testing at more than 300 newly built data centers, utilizing load testing equipment developed in-house. In recent years, demand for high-performance data centers has been increasing due to the advancement of information technologies and services such as cloud services and generated AI.
Increased heat generation and power consumption have become issues in data center operations, and high-performance data centers require more efficient and effective cooling and energy-saving technologies than ever before.
By participating in this project, we aim to develop liquid cooling system load test equipment for high-performance data centers and contribute to performance verification.
What is "performance verification testing" for newly constructed data centers?
In load testing for new data centers, it is required to verify and inspect the system as a comprehensive system that assumes actual operation. This is where the "Integrated Synchronization Test (IST)" is conducted. This is a test to verify whether the equipment functions comprehensively by generating events that are assumed to occur in operation.
What is the Data Center Trial Field?
The Data Center Trial Field is a facility opened by NTT DATA and Hibiya General Facilities on November 21, 2024, to promote open innovation and collaboration in data centers. The facility is equipped with an environment where visitors can use actual equipment to understand the characteristics and performance limits of cooling equipment, such as direct liquid cooling (DLC)*, which is typical of water and liquid cooling for cooling servers in data centers. In addition to understanding the characteristics of each heat source and server cooling system, it is possible to verify the overall system and facility construction.
What is Direct Liquid Cooling (DLC)?
Direct Liquid Cooling (DLC) is a cooling system in which chilled water is supplied directly to the heat sinks of the CPU (central processing unit) and GPU (image processing unit).
Players in the Data Center Trial Field
By participating in this project, Astex aims to establish a test environment for high-performance data centers and conduct 36 integrated linkage tests (IST) at high-performance data centers per year.
