Blog Watcher, Inc. In this release, we present the results of a comparison of the number of worshippers and the places of origin of five shrines dedicated to snakes in Japan on the three days of the New Year in the years 2024 and 2025.

How much did the number of Hatsumode visitors increase at shrines enshrining snakes nationwide in 2025?

■Outline

For this survey, we selected five shrines throughout Japan that worship snakes, such as shrines with snakes in the company name or shrines that worship snakes as deities. The number of visitors during the first three days of the New Year was analyzed.

1. kanejamizujinja (Iwanuma City, Miyagi Prefecture)

The number of worshippers increased 1.36 times over the previous year, and the number of origins spread from 19 prefectures to 25 prefectures.

2. jakubo shrine (Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo)

The number of worshippers was 2.17 times that of the previous year. The number of places from which worshippers departed (places of origin) increased sharply from 13 prefectures to 28 prefectures.

3. ogami-jinja shrine (Nara prefecture)

The number of worshippers increased, especially from all over Japan, spreading from 37 to 45 prefectures.

4. Iwakuni Hakubetsu Shrine (Iwakuni City, Yamaguchi Prefecture)

The number of worshippers increased 3.31 times, and the places of origin increased from 13 prefectures to 27 prefectures.

5. Hakuseru Shrine, Aso Hakusui Ryujin Gongen (Minamiaso Village, Kumamoto Prefecture)

The number of places of origin increased from 9 to 14 prefectures, and the number of worshippers increased dramatically.
