Europian Connection Ltd. (located in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo), an antique sales company, has launched a challenge on the crowdfunding site "CAMPFIRE" to publish a memorial book "Writer Museum" for the late Sakiko Anamizu, a legend of British antiques. The project reached 100% of its goal within one month of the start of crowdfunding, but the next goal has been set and the project will continue until February 28, 2025 (Friday).

Writers' Museum" Publication Project

Background of the Project

We would like to publish a reprint of "The Lighter Museum," a book about Sakiko Anamizu's collection of antique lighters that she collected before she passed away in December 2023. The "Lighter Museum" was actually a museum in Sumida-ku, Tokyo in the 2000s. The lighter collection was collected by Sakiko Anamizu from all over the world. Sakiko Anamizu was the first person to introduce European antiques to Japan and was the best collector of lighters in Japan at that time. We have decided to start a project to publish a "Lighter Museum" in order to make it known to more people.

Features

The Anamizu Collection "Lighter Museum" will be held as a special exhibition at the "7th Ariake Kotto World," one of the largest antique events in Japan, at Tokyo Big Sight from February 22 to 24, 2025. A number of rare antique lighters will be exhibited.

In 1969, Sakiko Anamizu moved to the U.K. and became involved in a number of business ventures as a female businesswoman, which was rare at that time. She was also the first person to introduce the word "antique" to Japan as "antiques for daily life," whereas at the time the only word for antiques in Japan was "kotto.

Sakiko Anamizu spent her school days at the University of the Sacred Heart, where her schoolmates included Empress Michiko, Sadako Ogata, and Hideko Suzuki. After graduating from the University of the Sacred Heart, she studied in England and worked at the London branch of Nomura Securities. While staying at the Earl's house, she encountered English antiques.

After returning to Japan, Anamizu was involved in the opening of the first genuine London pub in Japan, "Pub Cardinal Ginza," together with Ms. Minako Hanada, aka "Madam Hanada.

Later, to bridge the cultural gap between Europe and Japan, Anamizu opened the antique store "Ivy Antique Gallery" in Sumida-ku, Tokyo, to introduce Western antiques for daily use.

Anamizu imported many antiques directly from England. Anamizu has brought many demolished churches and traditional pubs to Japan and transformed them into wedding halls and new restaurants. Her achievements were featured in the British business magazine "BCCJ ACUMEN" (https://bccjacumen.com/original-ideas/). In the feature article, Anamizu is introduced as a woman who breathed new life into and saved traditional pubs and churches that were disappearing in the UK.
