Tsuchiya Corporation (Head office: Ibara City, Okayama Prefecture; Representative Director: Toshiyuki Takahama; Number of employees: 2,646), a social business company that provides home-visit care services for people with severe disabilities throughout Japan, as well as daycare services for the elderly, regular patrols, and home nursing services. Ltd. in January 2025, we have compiled the results of a survey on the level of happiness of the members of our Mindfulness Circle.
In April 2024, the Well-being Committee established the mindfulness circle "Refrel" (54 members) and introduced "MELON" (online) by Melon Co. Each member practices mindfulness individually. At the same time, the initial 14 members were surveyed on their level of happiness during the first six months after the implementation of mindfulness, using the "Happiness Diagnostic" by Hapitec, Inc.
These items are also closely related to "dissatisfaction with workplace relationships" and "low salary," which are major turnover factors in the nursing care industry, and we are currently conducting a 50-employee survey (including the current 14-employee survey). The Circle will continue to promote mindfulness within the company in order to contribute to the mental and physical health of employees, and will continue to conduct surveys and analysis.
Results of the Happiness Assessment
Subjects: 14 employees
Period: April to October 2024 (six months)
Diagnostic results by HAPITEC:
After six months of mindfulness implementation, the overall happiness level improved significantly by +2.16 pt (score is based on the difference from the general average). However, most of the participating members had higher levels of happiness at the start of the program.
By item, "earning power," "positive emotions," and "workplace with trusting relationships" improved particularly, with statistically significant differences. On the other hand, "trust at home and in the community" and "ability to communicate and take on challenges" decreased slightly. Of the 14 respondents, 10 improved their level of happiness, while 4 declined slightly.
Looking at the first half and the second half, the first three months showed a large increase in the overall value, and the effect of "stress reduction" was the most significant in each category.

Hapitec's analysis of the items (including some of our own analysis):
The highest improvement in "earning power" was not due to an increase in income, but rather to a combination of the effects of "knowing enough" to be satisfied with the current situation and "reduced stress," which seems to have increased satisfaction with income.
The next highest score, "Positive Emotions," may be attributed to the fact that the participants felt more enjoyment and fun at work as their minds became more organized, while "Workplace with trust" and "Safe and secure climate" may be attributed to the fact that everyone in the workplace was engaged in mindfulness activities.
On the other hand, the lower score for "trust at home and in the community" seems to be due to various circumstances, including individual private lives, rather than to the influence of mindfulness. However, the lower scores for "ability to take on challenges" and "desire to grow" may be due to the fact that, as a result of mindfulness, people became calmer and more satisfied with their current situation, and they no longer feel like they are being "chased" for their growth. However, the fact that they have learned to be content with their current situation may have been a contributing factor. However, it can also be said that even if the desire to grow has temporarily declined as they have learned that they have enough, they are still in the process of reexamining their own aspirations and linking them to growth and challenges.
Looking at the overall results, in addition to the above, the scores for "energetic power" and "ability to fully enjoy oneself" increased, indicating that "when one fully enjoys each thing, one can be oneself as one is," which is exactly the mindfulness power.
In addition, four of the 14 participants showed a decline in happiness, suggesting that there are other influences besides mindfulness, such as the various circumstances in their daily lives.
In any case, there is no doubt that regular mindfulness practice increased the level of happiness over a six-month period, and that the level of happiness increased in a variety of items.
Comments from Takenori Miyamoto, Chairman of the Well-being Committee
Well-being Committee Chairman, Taketaka Miyamoto
The Well-being Committee was established with the aim of raising the level of happiness of each and every employee, and as part of this effort, we run a mindfulness circle called "Refrel. The committee has conducted a happiness survey since the circle's establishment in order to visibly measure whether this initiative is making a solid contribution to the improvement of employee happiness.
We are pleased to see that the results of this year's survey show that not only "earning power," "positive emotions," and "a workplace of trust" (the top three), but also many other aspects of happiness have improved, confirming that mindfulness is linked to happiness in life.
Of course, what makes people happy is individual and unique to each person, but we hope that each person will find his or her own happiness, and our Circle members have actually experienced "improved sleep quality," "reduced stress," "reduced back pain," "improved ability to concentrate," and "improved performance" while dealing with their individual problems. I myself have found that mindfulness has helped me to improve my sleep quality," "I feel less stressed," "I have less back pain," "I can concentrate better," and "My performance has improved.
I myself have noticed that "more work has come my way" since I started practicing mindfulness. I am able to take on new challenges and feel that my new world is expanding as I gain knowledge and senses that I have never had before. The team has also been revitalized, and I feel that this is also due to positive emotions and an increased appreciation and sensitivity to things.
Nevertheless, I am more than happy for the happiness of my colleagues with whom I have a connection. And the fact that this, in turn, is accompanied by a sense of anticipation for preventing job turnover, is something that many of our employees are also happy about. We now have more than 50 Circle members, and we hope to continue to increase the number of members in an honest manner while striving to improve the happiness of our employees.
