Following the publication of the first compilation volume (No.1-10 combined), we have started a crowdfunding campaign on "CAMPFIRE" to publish the second volume of the free newspaper "Nya Quarterly" (No.11-20) published by the Yamagata Prefecture Shinjo and Mogami Region Wide-area Information Magazine Production Committee. Back numbers of "Nya Quarterly" are no longer available, and we will publish and sell the second volume of the compilation (a combined book of issues 11 to 20). We want to reach people who want to read back numbers! And we want more people to know about "Nya Quarterly" and the people who live in this area and connect them to the future. We are planning to raise funds through crowdfunding for the production of the second issue following the first issue (No.1-10). We hope that more people will become aware of "Nya Quarterly" and learn about the living proofs of the people who live in this area.

The publication of "Nya Quarterly" started in 2016, and we have published 24 issues so far, 3 issues a year. We deliver 5,000 copies of each issue to everyone in the community and beyond. Our main income comes from advertisements and subscriptions, but we are barely making ends meet and have no savings, so it is difficult to print more back issues. However, we have decided to produce a second compilation volume because many people want to obtain and read the back numbers. By printing the compilation, we can stock the history of people who lived in the area and deliver it to the future. Also, as we did with the first volume, we will provide it free of charge to educational institutions such as school facilities in the area.

Lectures to local high school literature clubs

By continuing to publish this quarterly magazine, we have learned that there are actually a lot of interesting things lying dormant in the local community close at hand. The name of the magazine "Nya" is derived from "nya", which means agreement in the Shinjo dialect, but soon after the first issue, an elderly person in the community pointed out to me that "nnya" is the original usage of the word. The editor-in-chief, who was born in this area 40 years ago, was unaware of this fact. In addition, as we conducted more interviews, we realized how many things we "thought we knew but really did not know. Each person living in the community has his or her own history, and each person living in the community can be the subject of a story. Perhaps this philosophy has been well received, as we have been invited to participate in high school students' club activities, teaching them how to conduct interviews in the region and how to edit the magazine, and together we have been discovering "universal values" and "universal fun" in the region.
